North Ogden July News Updates

Sunday, July 22, 2018 - 3:00pm
Dawn

We have a new Miss North Ogden, Rachel Alder! Her platform is “Choose Your Own Statistic: Taking a Look at the Positive Numbers,” which involves her advocacy for Utah Foster Care. There was a bit of a problem with a few people at the parade, to have people saying & yelling degrading comments and racial slurs at her during the parade. This was a shame that this happened.  This was a behavior that was unbecoming to our great City.

Below is her beautifully worded response to this event. We are so lucky to have her represent North Ogden! Thank you so much for your support and kindness, not only today but always! Rachel is a FABULOUS speaker and singer and her book will be published by the end of the month. If you would like to request her for an event, speaking engagement, school assembly, church function, etc., please contact us at missnorthogdenpageant@gmail.com.

“Today is such an exciting day! I love getting to celebrate and take extra time to be grateful for our country. Being part of the parade was so exciting; and I enjoyed getting to celebrate with North Ogden.

There was a point toward the end of the parade where someone used a racial slur at me. It’s definitely not the first time I’ve experienced that, but here’s what I want to say: I am proud to be in the skin that I’m in. I take pride in being African American and I love my country just the same as anyone else. Being the first African American Miss North Ogden is something special to me and I hope that little girls like me out there watching, see that beauty comes in all colors, shapes, and sizes. To be 100% real. I felt intimidated before about entering the pageant world, which I knew nothing about, and also because it’s not exactly known for its diversity. But today reminded me exactly why this is so important. I am grateful to be part of diversifying it, even when it’s hard. True beauty has nothing to do with pigment. It’s all about heart. And I can’t wait to share my heart and passion with you this year. Signing in as your Miss North Ogden 2018.” Rachel Alder

Farr Gone Band is one of our own!

In 2017, sophomore Kip Conger's band didn't even make it past the first round of Utah's Battle of the Bands. But one year later, they not only competed in the state competition, but walked away as the 2018 First Place band and won the opportunity to professionally record their original single, “September Rain.”

Farr Gone band, comprised of students from DaVinci Academy and Weber High.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Check out their music here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYzDY9fkSwA

Welcoming Capstone Academy to Pleasant View. Capstone Academy will provide students in 6-12th grades a classical education based on a Finnish model. Are you aware that in a standard school population, close to 15% of students can be classified as gifted learners? Unfortunately, in our area, the schools focus more on closing the gap between those that are behind the curve and those who perform at normal levels.

Capstone will not only challenge students, but it will prepare them to compete on a national and global level. We feel lucky to have them right in our backyard in Pleasant View on route 89, north of the Pepsi plant.

I hope we are all prepared for school to start soon, we will have updates on school registration in the next few weeks.
