Dave “Woody” Hanline, owner of Woodruff Automotive, was given recognition by the Pleasant View City Council at their meeting on August 12th. A proclamation signed by Mayor Toby Mileski and all council members was presented to Woody for 30 years of serving automotive needs of car owners in the area.
The Woodruff story goes back to 1984 when Wes and wife, Patty, first operated their shop on Pleasant View Drive in a two-bay service station. Dave, their son, was working in Salt Lake area as a service writer when he was called back home after Wes suffered a stroke in 1987. Wes had a reputation as one of the best carburetor men in Utah and had built a steady business, but now he needed help and Dave took over. Dave had grown up in the area, graduating from Weber High, and attending Weber State University, as well.
The business has grown steadily, and in 1999 moved to a new location on Highway 89 with 8 bays for service and has since doubled in size. The shop provides routine maintenance and has advanced diagnostic and electronics capabilities; the mechanics are all ASE Certified and some are Master ASE Certified. Woodruffs’ is also NAPA’s number one Auto Care Center in the Ogden area. The shop has a triple A rating with the Better Business Bureau.
In 2001, when tragedy struck in New York on September 11th, ironically the Woodruff family suffered when Patty Woodruff and her daughter Tricia died from gunshots in their home and were buried on 9/11. Dave and Wes eventually moved on with the shop as a common bond.
Woody’s community involvement is impressive, with support for FFA, Kiwanis Club and many other requests for support. Woody has sponsored a Car Show for 13 years, with the last three years as part of Pleasant View’s Founders Day activities. He and wife Diane are actively involved in making the show successful and enjoyable to car lovers.
Woodruff Automotive thrives today because of dedicated and skillful employees and management that cares about the needs of local car owners. Woody sums up his success this way: “I was lucky enough to be Wes’ son.” That, and having a love of cars.
