Governor appoints Pettit to the Third District Court

 

SALT LAKE CITY – (Sept. 15, 2014) Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Kara L. Pettit to fill a vacancy on the Third District Court.

 

“I have full confidence in Kara Pettit’s ability to hold the highest principles of justice and serve the Third District with dedication and integrity,” said Gov. Herbert. “She is well respected and will bring tremendous experience to the Third District Court.”

 

Pettit currently serves as an attorney at Snow, Christensen & Martineau in Salt Lake City.

She has represented various businesses, manufactures, governmental entities, individuals and insurance companies in commercial and contractual litigation at both the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts. She has also served as a deputy prosecuting attorney where she advance to the felony division screening attorney position for Ada County in Boise, Idaho (1995-99) and a law clerk at the Utah Attorney General’s Office (1994-95).

 

"I am humbled and honored by this appointment,” said Pettit.  “I look forward to the opportunity to serve the people in the Third District."

 

Currently, Pettit serves as a member of The Road Home Development Committee (2007-2014), and recently served as a pro bono senior clinic attorney and a pro bono guardian ad litem attorney.  She also served as a Utah Bar examiner where she assisted in grading the MPT portion of the Utah Bar exam.

Subject to Senate confirmation, Petit will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Terry Christiansen on Oct. 1, 2014.
