Weber Symphonic Band
A participation fee and/or instrumental rental fee may be required or included with course fees for listed classes.

The WHS Symphonic is an intermediate level performance group. The course further develops and refines core concepts and fundamentals introduced in the Junior HIgh School Band. Study includes the care and cultivation of a beautiful tone, the ability to read music with increasing fluency, the building of technical skills, esprit de corps, and responsible rehearsal habits. Students will have opportunities to experience the spontaneity of improvisation and the creative process of performance. Students will heighten listening skills and increase their ability to analyze and evaluate music and music performances. Attention will also be given to relating their music experiences to the time and culture of the pieces that they study, as well as to contemporary society. The class
is open to all sophomore, junior or senior students without an audition.
Students are encouraged, but not required to prepare and perform a solo for region and state solo festivals. The Concert Band will perform at the Fall, Christmas & Spring concerts, and Region Festivals. Band Members are also expected to participate in the WHS Pep Bands.
WHS Pep band exist to provide public support for the school's winter athletic program. The Pep band will perform at home Region Varsity games only. If teams continue into the post season, a volunteer group will be assembled to play at any Sub-state and State games. These groups will perform music in the rock, pop, and dance styles.

Utah State University Quinney Scholarships – scholarships provided the College of Natural Resources at Utah State University. This scholarship is available for senior student look to major in environmental studies, fisheries biology, recreation resource management, wildlife sciences, forestry, and other related fields. National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine – students participate in a week long program learning about different opportunities available in medical related fields. ACCESS Program – ACCESS exists to increase the retention of women in science and mathematics. You will attend a seven-week integrated science course designed specifically for the ACCESS program during the summer before your first year at the University of Utah, which can be applied to your general education requirements. University of Utah Bioscience High School Summer Research Program – Program at the University of Utah students participate in an eight-week program where they conduct an individual research program on campus with a University faculty member serving as a research mentor. Science Olympiad 2013 – Students compete as a team at the regional competition in a variety of science competitions related to biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, and physics. Team sign up usually occurs in October or November each year.
Cross Country Region Championships
The region course will be the same as it has been in the past. It is 3.0 miles on 90 % grass at Layton Commons Park by Layton High School.

Athletes Going to State
Varsity athletes and two alternates will continue training for state once Region is over. All other athletes will join us at the state meet on Wednesday, October 23rd. A bus will be provided for all athletes.
Jersey’s
All athletes that are not competing in State will turn in their uniforms Monday after the race. State athletes will turn them in after state.
State
The State Championships will be at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City. Spikes are recommended.
