40 different stakes in Weber County, including those in Harrisville, North Ogden, Pleasant View, and Farr West, gathered at the Dee Event Center and local churches for a Stake conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on November 23. Four different speakers spoke at the conference, including Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Elder Lynn G. Robbins of the Presidency of the Seventy spoke about the importance of temples to members. He talked about how being in the temple is symbolic of being in the Lord’s presence, which is why members should always strive to live worthily to enter it. He also mentioned how the common acronym CTR, which stands for “Choose the Right,” can also be used to stand for “Current Temple Recommend.”
Bishop Gérald Caussé, First Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric, also spoke about temples, specifically about how important it is for members to attend the temple often with their families. He said, “Understanding the eternal nature of the temple will draw you closer to your family; understanding the eternal nature of your family will draw you closer to the temple.”
Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson, Young Women General President, spoke about what it means to be a disciple of Christ. She said that it involves being obedient to the Savior and standing as a witness of Christ at all times. She also spoke about how members need to have the courage to be different from the rest of the world when things happen that are contrary to their beliefs. She said that true happiness in life comes from following the Savior no matter what.
Elder Perry mentioned several different responsibilities parents have, including teaching their children about the standards of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He also spoke about how sincere repentance can bring peace into anyone’s life.
