Plain City—Fremont High’s swim team is well underway in their 2014-2015 season and have had some pretty impressive finishes. At the region relays held on November 11, the boys’ team took first place and the girls’ team took third. They’ve also had plenty of individual swimmers from the team finish in the top three in different events. Needless to say, it’s been a great season so far for both the team and Timothy Shupe, who’s been coaching for Fremont since 2006, and serving as head coach since 2009. It’s been even more exciting for Coach Shupe, since he used to swim for Fremont from 2002 to 2005. “It is cool to be coaching the same team that I swam for ten years ago,” he said in an e-mail.
Coach Shupe mentioned how several school records should be broken this season since there are so many returning swimmers from last season, “which means we will be able to build off of last year's success.” When asked what he enjoys the most about the swim meets, Coach Shupe said he likes the entire atmosphere that is built up there. “The swimmers chanting, swimmers dropping time; all of it is good.” With all the success so far, Fremont should expect to do great things during the 5A State Championships in February. Until then, just keep swimming.
