The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the open house, cultural celebration and dedication dates for the Trujillo Peru and Indianapolis Indiana Temples. The Trujillo Peru Temple open house will begin on Friday, May 8, 2015, and the Indianapolis Indiana Temple open house will start on Friday, July 17, 2015. Both are free and open to the public. Nearly 2,300 inmates in Utah, Idaho and Arizona voluntarily participate in the family history indexing program sponsored by the LDS Church. Regardless of religious affiliation, prisoners are invited to digitize images of old records which are compiled into FamilySearch's online searchable index. Full Story
A new temple exhibit opened to the public at the Washington D.C. Temple Visitors’ Center on Saturday, January 10, 2015. The model provides visitors a glimpse of the temple’s interior and a way to learn about the purpose of Latter-day Saint temples. It was built using three-dimensional scans of the temple’s interior and exterior to create the 1:48 scaled replica, similar to the 1:32 scale model of the Salt Lake Temple that went on display in 2010. In an effort to make “Meet the Mormons” more accessible to people around the world, theaters in all visitors’ centers and historic sites of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began showing the film on January 1, 2015. Showings in the Legacy Theater on Temple Square started on January 2. The documentary-style movie, designed to dispel common misconceptions people have about Mormons, made its national debut in more than 400 theaters across the United States in October. Full Story
