Friday 6th February 2015:
264 people died between the year 2000 and 2013 as a result of domestic violence in Utah1. This means that 42% of all homicides experienced in the state were related to domestic violence.
The nonprofit domestic violence victim services will come together on Monday 9th February 2015, with the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition, to ask state legislators to support a proposal to reduce the number of domestic violence homicides in the state, reduce serious injury and prevent re-assault by piloting a lethality assessment protocol.
The nonprofit domestic violence programs face high demand for their services on a daily basis; 18.9 % of women in Utah reported experiencing intimate partner violence in 2013 alone2. The 13 victim services seek $393,500 awarded by the state legislature in 2014 be appropriated again on an ongoing basis.
To learn more about the prevalence of domestic violence and the steps being taken to address this public health and safety issue you are invited to join the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition, members and partners on Monday 9th February at 12:30pm at the State Capitol Rotunda.
