Hatch to Deliver Speech on King v. Burwell Obamacare Lawsuit

WASHINGTON – Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), a member and former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, will call for the Supreme Court to strike down the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rule at issue in the Obamacare subsidy case, King v. Burwell, in a keynote address on Monday, February 23, 2015, at the Heritage Foundation. The speech will take place at 12:00 p.m. in the Allison Auditorium at the Heritage Foundation Headquarters.

In the speech, Sen. Hatch will make the case that the IRS rule interpreting the health care law to authorize tax credits for individuals who purchased insurance on federally-run exchanges conflicts with the law’s text and is thus unlawful. The text of the law requires that insurance be purchased on state exchanges in order for individuals to be eligible for tax credits. Hatch will detail why the rule should be struck down and how the Administration’s unlawful interpretation of its own law could affect millions of Americans.
