June 6 – 27 (Except June 13) | Matinees June 20 & 27

The Heritage Community Theater proudly announces its rendition of the award-winning musical, “Big River:  The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” to be performed June 6 through 27.

Mark Twain’s timeless classic sweeps us down the mighty Mississippi as Huck Finn helps his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom.  Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful, and heartwarming, bringing to life our favorite characters from the novel.  Propelled by a Tony Award winning bluegrass score from Roger Miller, this jaunty journey provides a brilliant celebration of pure Americana. Ernest Hemingway declared that “all modern American literature comes from one book...Huckleberry Finn.”

Director Dee Pace, who has directed the show previously, names it as one of his all-time favorites.  “Whether you read the book as a child or not, you will fall in love with this legendary work.  The show appeals to people of all ages. It engages the romping fun of Huck’s youthful peers, the outrageous antics of traveling con men, life’s lessons regarding friendship, romance, and humanity, and the ever-present Mississippi.  Every minute is entertaining.”

“You will find the production side equally entertaining,” Pace adds.  “Much of it takes place on a moving raft, representing travel on the river.  This show simply has universal appeal.  Everyone will go away with something.”

Playing the role of Huckleberry Finn is Brigham City’s Mitch Andersen, with the role of Jim played by Carlton Bluford, previously from North Ogden, now heralding from Salt Lake City.  Other unforgettable characters include Rob Christensen and Lee Perry as the hilarious Duke and King, and Director Dee Pace playing the role of Huck’s father, Pap.  “As far as supporting cast members, each takes on a character role at some point in Huck’s and Jim’s journey down the Mississippi River.”
