Over 300 young single adults (YSAs) from Weber and Davis counties came together to sing during the Saturday afternoon session of the 185th Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 4, 2015. Sisters Melani and Danielle Parker of the Ogden YSA 2nd Stake both sang in the choir and absolutely loved it. They mentioned how neat it was that they had family members and friends from around the country who watched conference and could feel the Spirit through the music that was sung. “It was really cool to see how much it touched so many people,” Melani said. Danielle mentioned how she has a friend who lives in Nigeria and is not a member of the LDS Church but still watched conference and loved it so much.
Both also mentioned how it wasn’t just showing up to sing for everyone; all those who were in the choir had to prepare themselves spiritually. “There were four things that Sonja [the chorister] wanted us to work on,” Danielle said. “We needed to know right from wrong, do an anonymous act of service, fast, and attend the temple.” By doing those things, they were able to share their testimonies of Christ through song more effectively since they were in tune with the Spirit. They both also talked about how much everyone loved the last song “Let Us All Press On” because of the message in it. “The words ‘Fear not, though the enemy deride; Courage, for the Lord is on our side’ are exactly what the worlds needs to hear right now,” Melani said. “It’s a message for everyone, you have no reason to be afraid if you’re on the Lord’s side.” The power that music has in a person’s life is very strong, which is why it was great listening to the YSA group use that power to help spread the message of hope, love, and courage for everyone to hear.
