SUMMER MEALS SITES FOR HUNGRY KIDS NOW EASIER TO FIND
Toll-free Hotline Connects Callers to Local Summer Meals Sites
New Hunger Fighter Recruiting Volunteers to Feed Hungry Kids
In Utah, only 10.7% of kids who received free or reduced price school lunch also received summer meals in 2014, but the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) funds a toll-free hotline to make it easier than ever before for hungry kids to access meals this summer.
During summer months the USDA National Hunger Hotline, operated by the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, provides information about meal sites where children 18 years old and under can get free, nutritious meals through the USDA Summer Food Service Program. The hotline can be reached at 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (for Spanish) from Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET). The hunger hotline can immediately connect families with food providers in their area, which is especially important in summer months when school is out. Our team will be working all summer long to connect families with their local summer meals sites, which provides meals to all children 18 and under at no cost, and with no enrollment requirements.”
