Golf Tournament to Raise Scholarship Funds
for Utah Veterans and Families of Fallen and Wounded Soldiers
Event planners seeking hole sponsors for September 18 event at Wolf Creek Utah Golf Course
OGDEN, Utah, August 19, 2015 – Alumni of Weber State University fraternities, Sigma Delta Pi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, are sponsoring their fourth annual Scholarship Fund-raiser Golf Tournament to raise scholarship money for Utah veterans and families of fallen and wounded soldiers. The event slated for Friday, Sept. 18, at Wolf Creek Utah Golf Course in Eden, starts at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast and the four-man scramble tournament follows at 10 a.m.
Space is limited for the annual event that costs $115 per player or $430 per team. Registration includes breakfast, green fees, golf cart rental, prizes and dinner at 3 p.m. Additional dinner guests are $25 each. Event planners are also seeking hole-sponsorship donations of $275 from the business community.
In 2012, a group of Weber State alumni fraternity brothers created a non-profit organization, Brothers, and originally set up a fund through the WSU Veterans Affairs office, to provide $5,000 in scholarships for two spouses and a grandson of Purple Heart recipients. The benefit golf tournament has become an annual event, and the organization’s biggest fund raiser. Brothers has raised $30,000 over the past three years and hopes to raise $12,000 in scholarship money in 2015.
“Utah’s servicemen and women and their families have made great sacrifices to serve our country,” said Scott Parkinson, Weber State Alum. “We invite golfers from the business community to sponsor a hole, join us for golf or write a generous check to provide scholarships for our local veterans and the families of fallen or wounded soldiers.”
