Our U.S. Constitution is 228 years old today

Friday, September 18, 2015 - 7:15am

September 17th, I feel so grateful for our Founding Fathers who gave their all to establish this nation under a constitution that protects life, liberty and the right to pursue our dreams. Our U.S. Constitution protects individuals and the states where we live from a too-powerful federal government. Under it, hardworking Americans have prospered for over two centuries, thanks to the freedom to dare, to try, to fail and to succeed. Our Founders had faith in the Constitution. Let us too be faithful to its principles and promise.

This week, many are celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States on September 17, 1787. Did you know that Public Law 108-447 Section 111 requires that "Each educational institution that receives Federal funds...shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17...for the students served by the educational institution?" Every school in our nation should be honoring the Constitution by teaching its principles. Where they are not, you can as families. Here are my favorite resources for teaching the Constitution in your homes:

National Center for Constitutional Studies www.nccs.net

Homemakers for America www.homemakersforamerica.org  Their Liberty Convention is this Saturday in Salt Lake City; it's not too late to register; come join us!

Liberty Trek for the Trapper Trails Council BSA is September 25-26. If you live in northern Utah, southern Idaho or western Wyoming, you should bring your scouts and come!

Here's the link to a short video about Liberty Trek  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yNsGyexo4I     Register at www.trappertrails.org.

This is why we do Liberty Trek

, because
"A primary object should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? And what duty more pressing thatn communicating it to those who are to be ther future guardians of the liberties of the country?" - George Washington

In 1787, George Washington also said, "The power under the Constitution will always be in the people. It is entrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and whenever it is executed contrarty to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can, and undoubtedly will, be recalled."

We live in interesting, very challenging but also truly promising times.
A favorite scripture of mine makes this promise: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

May we humbly

and prayerfully remember our Founders today and strive to teach the principles of liberty and freedom to our families this coming year.
