Farr West—On November 3, 2015, three Farr West citizens will be elected to be a part of the Council. There are five candidates running to fill these seats, they are:  Ken McCollum, David C. Jay, Ken Phippen, Ted Black, and Tom Burkland. Each one has a unique quality that they would bring to the Council; each one with a different perspective; and each one with a different goal in mind that they want to see accomplished during their time serving on the Council.

Ken McCollum is very excited to serve, as there is “not a lot of arguing, everyone gets their jobs done, and we are able to stay within budget.” Mr. McCollum has quite a bit of experience in leadership roles as he has worked in three different cities, including Boise and Preston, Idaho. He is a retired Chief of Police who knows how to ask all the right questions while keeping everything in the citizen’s best interest. Being retired with a degree in law enforcement, McCollum has plenty time to devote to the citizens of Farr West.

David C. Jay has been on the planning commission and feels he can bring good leadership qualities to the Farr West community. Mr. Jay has been a resident of Farr West for ten years and was born and raised in Weber County, so he is no stranger to the area. His main goal is simply to make a difference in the community he lives in, as stated, “ I am just someone who wants to try to make a difference in the place I live; I take an interest in the future of Farr West as it is going to grow and it needs to be done responsibly and by code.” Mr. Jay would like to see all citizens with the same opportunities. He has stated that he has no specific agenda and is not running against anyone, but he is just running for himself and his city.

Ted Black, the father of seven and married to the same woman for 20 years is a lifetime Utah resident who has been involved with the Farr West community for 15 years. Mr. Black is a Chief Deputy Fire Marshal and has been for the past 12 years. As part of the Planning Committee and being a part of public service for most of his adult career, he is not only interested in helping the community, but also is hoping to create walking trails through-out Farr West.  He also takes an interest in the Smith Family Park development, and believes that “(Farr West) is quickly becoming and will be the place to live in Weber County. (He) would like to encourage responsible development.”

Ken Phippen and Tom Burkland had not gotten back to us by the time of publishing.

Updates for this office is coming.
