Z. Lee Dickemore was elected mayor in the recent election held November 5, 2013.  Jimmy Pappageorge was mayor of Farr West City until he passed away on December 11, 2012.  Z. Lee Dickemore was then appointed as mayor.

Boyd Ferrin was re-elected as City Councilman. Matt Gwynn was also elected as a City Councilman, and has the distinction of being the youngest elected person to serve in this position.

Per the General Election Canvass -voter turnout was 29.16%.

Progress continues on Farr West’s new Junior High School building.  It is nearing completion.

The new Maverick located on 2700 North in Farr West, Utah, opened November 6, 2013.  It boasts 24 car/truck fuel pumps, and has a large facility at the back of the location for RV fueling.   It also has 3 covered picnic areas outside.

Semi-trucks may fuel there as well.  The only drawback to fueling at their location is the lack of “high-flow” fuel pumps.  They have turned up the volume on the pumps to help compensate for this inconvenience.  It may also be possible for a few trucks to park in the back lot.  The service is friendly and fast.  However, it does not have a shower facility for the “long-haul” driver.

At the City Council Meeting held on November 7, 2013, a motion was made to set a public hearing to consider adoption and approval of a sanitary sewer, storm drains and Parks and Recreation Capital Facilities, as well as an impact fee analysis.  Farr West City Ordinance Code #13-09 contains proposed revisions for impact fees.  The park impact fees will go up to $1694.  A proposal was made to determine the cost to update impact fees annually.

At the City Council Meeting held on November 21, 2013, Capital Facilities Plans and impact fee studies were presented.  Farr West sanitary sewer is lower than the surrounding cities.  Fee for parks is about the same as other cities, and it is hard to tell regarding the storm drains because there are differing “units of measure”.

It was proposed that the Council approve both re-zoning and conditional-use permits on behalf of Northern Utah Leasing.  Both proposals were granted.

Blakely Acres Subdivisions was granted a preliminary approval and a Public Hearing was set for December 12, 2013. regarding the sidewalk, and new curb and gutter ordinance.

Bill Morris presented RAMP grant information for North Park/Smith Family Park.  Mr. Morris is applying for about $450,000 in RAMP funds.  His application needs to be turned in no later than January 15, 2014.  The funding will disappear if it is not used by the year 2015.  A Public Hearing will be scheduled once the money is received.

Trevor Smith has been permitted to re-finish the scorekeeper box at Farr West City Park.  It will need new sheetrock due to water damage, and a broken window replaced.  It will be repainted, and the floor will be painted as well, according to Smith.

No meeting was held on December 19, 2013.
