Gov. Gary Herbert Fails to Answer Call and Inform Voters, GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Jonathan Johnson and Sen. Jim Dabakis to Debate on Utah Issues Instead

With S.B. 54 still the law in Utah, candidates can begin to gather signatures to get on the June 28 primary ballot starting January 4, 2016 – just six weeks away.  Under S.B. 54, once a registered voter signs a ballot petition for a candidate and that candidate submits the ballot petition, the voter’s signature on any other ballot petition for any other candidate running for the same office do not count.

Johnson believes voters should hear a debate between the two declared gubernatorial candidates so voters can make an educated decision when candidates begin to gather ballot petition signatures. Despite multiple debate requests from the community and an extensive initiative from college students, Gov. Gary Herbert has refused to engage and instead continues to attend and host several high-dollar fundraisers.

Jonathan Johnson and Sen. Jim Dabakis believe conducting public discourse throughout Utah in the form of debates is an important part of the democratic process.  They have scheduled a series of four debates to discuss Utah issues in December.  They would, of course, welcome Gov. Herbert’s participation.

The first debate will be held on Tuesday, December 1st from 2:00-3:00 pm on the St. George based radio station, Fox News KNZU with the Kate Dalley Show. Those in the southern Utah area can listen live at 93.1 FM or 1450 AM. For those not in the Southern Utah area, the general public can tune in live at: http://foxnews1450.com/listen-live/

Details for the remaining three debates will be published at a later date
