Governor to participate in “Hour of Code” to kick-off Computer and Science Education Week
What: Gov. Gary R. Herbert will join students from Ascent Academy to learn code and launch Computer and Science Education week in Utah. The governor will participate in the “Hour of Code” as part of a national event designed to ensure all students grades K-12 have the opportunity to learn computer science. The initiative focuses on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education in Utah classrooms to meet a growing need in the software and information technology industry.
Gov. Herbert has designated Dec. 7-11 as Computer Science Education Week in Utah. Tens of millions of students are expected to participate in the “Hour of Code.” Anyone can participate in the event with a one-hour tutorial available for free online at code.org.
