STATEMENT on FBI Arrest of Cliven Bundy and the Resolution of the Malheur Refuge Standoff

DENVER—The Center for Western Priorities released the following statement on the arrest of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the end of the standoff at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge:

Executive Director Jennifer Rokala:

“The wheels of justice may move at their own pace, but it was only a matter of time before the law caught up with Cliven Bundy. The men and women who manage and protect American public lands, whose lives have been threatened by Mr. Bundy and his family, are safer today. Cliven Bundy and his family do not speak for the very large majority of Americans, from ranchers to hunters and hikers to mountain bikers who deeply value and support American public lands for our generation and the next.”

“We’re thankful that the FBI and Oregon State Police brought the takeover of the wildlife refuge to a peaceful conclusion and no more lives were lost. After the investigation at the refuge is complete, we look forward to seeing the gates opened up so all Americans can once again enjoy our public lands.”
