Chaffetz’s tax and audit bill is subject of radio ad

Teng criticizes Chaffetz’s bill as allowing taxation without representation

Provo, Utah - May 10, 2016 — In his second congressional radio advertisement of the primary election, Republican Chia-Chi Teng released an ad informing the public of Representative Jason Chaffetz’s sponsorship of House Bill 2775, the Remote Transaction Parity Act of 2015. The bill is opposed by Teng and conservative group Americans for Tax Reform.

The advertisement depicts two radio hosts holding a telephone contest where listeners answer trivia questions about Jason Chaffetz and H.R.2775.  The advertisement says:

male radio host 1:

Time to play...

male radio hosts 1 and 2:

...get to know your congressman.

male radio host 1:

Suzy you're caller five. Ready?

female caller:

Oh yes!

male radio host 1:

True or false, Jason Chaffetz is sponsoring a bill in Congress that would increase how much the average Utahn pays in taxes?

female caller:

True.

male radio host 1:

You're right, he's sponsoring House bill number 2775.

male radio host 2:

So much for his no new taxes pledge.

male radio host 1:

Suzy, next question.

female caller:

I'm still here.

male radio host 1:

Chaffetz's tax bill gives authority to other states to audit Utahns. Americans for Tax Reform said the bill threatens the simple principle of no taxation without...?

female caller:

...representation, everybody knows that.

male radio host 1:

Correct!

male radio host 2:

Everybody but Chaffetz!

female caller:

Wait, I’ve got a small business. If Chaffetz's bill passes could I get audited by New York?

male radio host 1:

Huh, yeah.

male radio host 2:

New York, California, D.C.

female caller:

Oh.

Chia-Chi Teng:

Hi, I'm Republican Chia-Chi Teng, candidate for U.S. Congress, and I approve this message because Utah needs higher-paying jobs, not higher taxes.

male radio host 1:

Paid for by Teng for Utah.

“I’ve signed a tax pledge to not raise taxes, so has Mr. Chaffetz, but I will really keep mine,” said Chia-Chi Teng.

“I’d like to see the current IRS commissioner impeached,” said Mr. Chaffetz, but it makes no sense to replace one tax tyrant in D.C. with 50 tax commissioners - that he cannot impeach -  from states and territories and who represent 10,000 different taxing entities across the country.

“Americans for Tax Reform was right when they said Mr. Chaffetz’s bill ‘ … is a new threat to raise taxes on the Internet,’ and that, ‘It creates new and worrisome statutes that threaten the simple principle of no taxation without representation.’

“America fought a war over this principle. Americans gave their lives for this principle. We cannot let Mr. Chaffetz throw it away!”

The advertisement is playing throughout Utah’s 3rd Congressional District on talk radio and can be heard online at www.tengforutah.org.
