Jon Meade sets new book campaign for ‘Confessions of a Surviving Alien’

Jon Meade is retired and living in Tucson. His memoir tells his story and background in journalism, creative writing, public relations and marketing, and business experiences, successes and most notably failures. American Heart Month Offers Chance to Learn about Heart Disease Risk
Both Men and Women Urged to Take Action against Top Killer on National Wear Red Day
As part of its effort to improve cardiac health and reduce disparities for people at risk for heart attack or stroke, HealthInsight reminds everyone that February is American Heart Month. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the American Heart Association created American Heart Month to draw attention to the importance of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The month also serves to honor health professionals, researchers and heart health ambassadors whose dedication to fighting heart disease enables countless Americans to live full and active lives.
Cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, are the leading cause of death in the United States, for both men and women. About 610,000 people die of heart disease each year: one in every four deaths in this country.
The term “heart disease” refers to several types of heart conditions, including coronary artery disease – the most common type that can cause a heart attack or stroke, heart diseases involving the valves, or the heart not being able to pump well, which may cause heart failure.
HealthInsight is working with health care professionals and community stakeholders in Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Utah to lower cardiac risk and improve cardiac health.
National Wear Red Day® is Friday, February 3
One effort of American Heart Month is National Wear Red Day, recognized the first Friday of February. This day highlights the importance of women recognizing and responding to their risk for heart disease. More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, heart disease is often silent, hidden and misunderstood. Currently some 8 million women in the United States are living with heart disease, yet only one in six women recognize heart disease as her greatest health threat.
On February 3 and throughout the month, HealthInsight encourages health care practitioners, stakeholders, partners and the public to wear something red – a dress, shirt, tie or accessory – to increase awareness and support the cause. Clinicians are also reminded to have conversations with their patients about heart health.
“You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease,” said Sarah Woolsey, MD, HealthInsight Utah medical director. “You can lower your risk by focusing on practical things like watching your weight, quitting smoking and staying away from secondhand smoke, controlling your cholesterol and blood pressure, not drinking alcohol or only in moderation, getting active and eating healthy.”

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA, February 2, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Intermountain Precision Genomics announces the creation of a Translational Science Center (TSC) within the Intermountain Healthcare system. The center will house several of the latest high-throughput next-generation sequencing instruments for large-scale whole genome sequencing. This initiative comes as Intermountain’s next step to bring personalized medicine from the lab bench to clinical practice and improve patient’s lives.
One of the center’s primary goals will be to sequence groups of samples from Intermountain’s extensive BioRepository, where biopsy specimens have been stored for decades. In reference to the biobank, Lincoln Nadauld, MD, PhD, stated, “The secrets to how we should treat our patients in the future are locked away in our samples stored from patients of the past.” The Translational Science Center will create a pipeline of genomic information and eventually impact personalized clinical practice. The TSC will also collaborate with investigators and clinicians inside and outside the network of Intermountain hospitals and clinics to enable their research initiatives.
To spearhead the buildout and operation of the center, Intermountain has recruited Helaman Escobar as Director of Translational Science & Research. He joins the Precision Genomics group bringing many years of experience managing academic and commercial high-throughput genomic operations. According to Escobar, “There are not too many organizations with the pioneering mind frame of Intermountain; including the critical mass of physicians, investigators, precious samples (with longitudinal medical record) and all the infrastructure to support such a unique genomics initiative. We are poised to do something of tremendous impact. It’s very exciting to be part of this from its inception.”
Eventually, the Translational Science Center will be an integral part of the Intermountain Cancer Center, currently part of the ongoing expansion at Dixie Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah. The new Intermountain Cancer Center is slated for completion mid-summer 2018. Meanwhile, the TSC will occupy space next to the Precision Genomics Clinical Core Laboratory. Sequencing genomes will start as soon as April 2017. The first projects will include pancreatic, breast and colorectal cancer studies.

Kids! Get in Touch with Nature Through the Saving Endangered Species Youth Art Contest
Annual contest encourages children in grades K through 12 to learn about endangered wildlife and the importance of environmental conservation
Protecting nature is critical to keeping our planet thriving for future generations. What better way to do that than by engaging youth to put their imaginative skills to work for wildlife in the 2017 Saving Endangered Species Youth Art Contest.
The competition provides school children in grades K through 12 an opportunity to learn about threatened and endangered wildlife while expressing their knowledge and support for conservation efforts through their artistic and creative talents. It is an integral part of the 12th annual international Endangered Species Day celebration, which will take place on May 19, 2017.
Artwork should highlight one or more land- or ocean-dwelling threatened or endangered species — mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, plant or invertebrate — found in the United States. Entries must be submitted electronically no later than March 1, 2017.
Organized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Endangered Species Coalition, Association of Zoos and Aquariums and International Child Art Foundation (ICAF), the contest promotes national awareness of the importance of saving endangered species across the United States and around the globe.
Contest winners will be chosen by a prestigious panel of artists, photographers and conservationists, including renowned marine life artist Wyland; Jack Hanna, host of Jack Hanna's Into the Wild; David Littschwager, freelance photographer and regular contributor to National Geographic magazine; Susan Middletown, a photographer who has collaborated with Littschwager and whose own work has been published in four books; and Alice Tangerini, botanical illustrator for the Smithsonian Institution.

These personable and academically select exchange students speak English, are bright, curious, and eager to learn about this country through living as part of a family for an academic year and attending high school. Wanted to share the recent news that MGX Minerals - inventors of a technology that harvests lithium from the petroleum brine accompanying oil-sands wastewater, just acquired the Lisbon Valley petro-lithium project in the Paradox Basin, Utah.
Credit Suisse forecasts that demand for lithium "will actually outstrip supply as we approach the later part of the decade." This acquisition by MGX--whose technology reduces lithium recovery times from 18 months to one day--is a crucial boost to that supply source. The company already owns the rights to the majority of Alberta, Canada's high-grade lithium brine properties and is integral to keeping up with the world's current lithium demand boom.

In Canada, they recently announced an exploration agreement with the operator of the Sturgeon Lake oilfield in Alberta, Canada. Basically, MGX produces lithium carbonate from the brine in produced oilfield water. As you may know, petroleum brine is plentiful, yet is currently treated as a by-product only to be sent back downhole after the oil is separated at the wellhead.
This is significant because it shows how major oil and gas companies are proactively diversifying into the alternative energy space. Consider that a number of analysts are predicting that the boom in EV's will take a bite out of oil use. So news of oil and gas companies moving into the lithium space (think EV batteries) is huge!

MGX Minerals Acquires Lisbon Valley Petro Lithium Project in Utah
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA / February 2, 2017 / MGX Minerals Inc. ("MGX" or the "Company") (CSE: XMG / FKT: 1MG/ OTC: MGXMF) is pleased to announce it has acquired the Lisbon Valley petro lithium project (the "Project") located in the Paradox Basin, Utah.
The Project includes 888 placer mineral claims inclusive of lithium brine mineral rights covering the majority of the Lisbon Valley oil and gas field (see Figure 1), where historic lithium brine content has been reported as high as 730 parts per million lithium (Superior Oil 88-21P). "This recent acquisition in the Paradox Basin is strategic for MGX. These claims cover the majority of the Lisbon Oilfield placing MGX as a major player in oilfield lithium brine in the United States," stated MGX Chairman Marc Bruner.
Geologic Setting The Lisbon Valley oil and gas field is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Moab, Utah in the salt anticline belt on the southwest edge of the Paradox Basin in San Juan county. The oilfield was first discovered by Pure Oil Company in 1960. The Lisbon field produces oil and gas from the southwest flank of a faulted anticlinal trap in the Devonian sandstones and Mississippian limestones (Segal et al., 1986).
The Paradox Basin covers large parts of San Juan, Garfield, Wayne, Emery, and Grand Counties in southeastern Utah. The Basin was a structural and depositional trough associated with the Pennsylvanian-age Ancestral Rocky Mountains. The subsiding basin developed a shallow-water carbonate shelf that locally contained carbonate buildups along its south and southwest margins.
The region is home to the former Rio Algom uranium mill facility, an active copper mine operated by Lisbon Valley Mining Company, and a natural gas processing plant located in the city of Lisbon, Utah.
Extraction of Lithium from Oil Field Brine As previously announced, MGX and engineering partner PurLucid Treatment Solutions ("PurLucid") have successfully extracted lithium from oil sands wastewater (see press release dated January 3, 2017). The Company and PurLucid are now preparing for deployment of the pilot plant shortly with commercial scale deployment expected during the second half of 2017.
The pilot plant unit represents fully integrated technology combining MGX's patent pending lithium extraction process, which potentially reduces recovery times of lithium and other valuable minerals from 18 months to one day when compared with conventional lithium extraction, with PurLucid's patented water purification technology, which removes particulate and dissolved material including dissolved and emulsified oil, colloids and heavy metals.
Pilot Plant Optimization Update Results from pilot plant optimization testing will be released shortly as part of the completion of the pilot plant. Lithium carbonate has been extracted from oil well production waste water at the Company's flagship Sturgeon Lake property. Results are currently under technical review and will be released shortly.

Since 2006, Helen Butler of Alpine has participated in the prestigious Springville Museum of Art’s Annual Quilt Competition and has won an award every year, including two Best of Shows. Butler was also the Featured Traditional Quilter in the Brigham City Museum’s 2013 International Art Quilt Invitational Exhibition.
Because of the breathtaking quality of Butler’s quilts - both visually and technically - she has been invited to give a trunk show at the Brigham City Library on Feb. 17 and a workshop at the Brigham City Museum of Art and History on March 4.
The trunk show at the library is set for 1:30 p.m. Butler will present 70 quilts. The library is located at 26 East Forest. Admission is free. Following the event, refreshments will be served at the museum.
The museum’s three-hour workshop titled the “Finer Elements of Machine Quilting” begins at 10 a.m. The cost of the workshop is $40 plus $8 for a materials packet. Preregistration is required. Butler began quilting approximately 25 years ago after visiting a fabric store that had recently opened near her home. She recalls, “When I walked through the door and saw the beautiful, quality material, I felt ‘I was home.’” The quilter is inspired by nature, architecture, antique quilts, furniture designs, tiles, picture frames, fabric and photos.
The public will have an opportunity to see Butler’s quilt “Galileo” which is included in the Utah Quilt Guild’s 40th Anniversary Exhibition on view at the museum through March 25. Admission is free.
