SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA, February 17, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Intermountain Healthcare and Oxeon have announced the formation and launch of Empiric Health, an independent company that will offer a revolutionary program to truly enable evidenced-based medicine.
In addition to Intermountain, Loma Linda University Health will serve as an initial anchor customer.
Empiric is a technology-enabled service that will address variation in healthcare costs and outcomes for both clinicians and health system administrators.
The company’s initial solution offering will be based on Intermountain’s ProComp program. Clinicians built this program to help understand how differences in the way surgical procedures are performed – from supply utilization to staffing – impact patient outcomes and overall cost of care.
To date, the program has created operational efficiencies resulting in more than $90M in savings for Intermountain and its patients, including reducing supply costs and length of stay.
Unlike similar sounding market solutions, Empiric Health will use actual clinical and patient outcomes data, structured according to patent-pending, physician-approved groupings to ensure accuracy. Once variation is identified, clinicians are then engaged individually or at a service line level to discuss the best way to deliver care.
“The collaboration between Intermountain Healthcare and Empiric Health will help caregivers improve patient outcomes and lower costs,” says Marc Harrison, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer at Intermountain Healthcare. “Through Empiric Health, we will share our proven methodology for delivering better care—along with significant ROI and bottom-line impact—with other health systems.”
“Loma Linda is proud to serve as an anchor customer of Empiric Health. As an academic medical center, we were particularly attracted to Empiric’s ability to use real world evidence to drive clinical conversations and improve patient outcomes,” says Dr. Gary Botimer, Chair, Orthopedic Surgery, Loma Linda University Health.
“Oxeon is thrilled to be building and launching another company with incredible anchor partners,” says Trevor Price, Chief Executive Officer of Oxeon Holdings. “Empiric Health is truly differentiated in this market and will help us fulfill our shared mission of making people healthier, regardless of whether health systems operate in value-based or fee-for-service models.”
