World Spay Day cat vouchers at HSU, Feb. 24

Tuesday, February 24, 2015 - 9:18am

World Spay Day cat vouchers at HSU

Reduce homeless pets through spay/neuter

The Humane Society of Utah is proud to participate in The Humane Society of the United States' 2015 World Spay Day Tuesday, Feb. 24. To bring awareness to the very important issue of the homeless pet population in Utah and around the world, a limited number of free and discounted Cat Spay Vouchers will be issued between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the HSU Clinic located at 4242 S 300 W in Murray, Utah. Vouchers will be given on a first come, first served basis; limit one voucher per household.

A limited number of free Cat Spay Vouchers that also include a free Distemper Vaccination will be given to the first 50 people who arrive. Owners do not need to bring their cat with them to receive a voucher and surgeries will not be performed the same day.

After these 50 free Cat Spay Vouchers are gone, the HSU Clinic will be giving out an additional 50 vouchers for 50 percent off a Cat Spay only.

“Getting your pet spayed/neutered is the most effective and humane way to decrease the number of homeless animals in shelters,” said Pauline Edwards, HSU clinic director.

Surgery appointments may be made after a voucher is received. Proof of current cat vaccinations must be provided before an appointment may be scheduled. Cat Spay Vouchers are for female cats.

The Humane Society of Utah chooses to focus its World Spay Day efforts on cats this year. While many shelters in Utah, including the HSU, have achieved no-kill status on homeless dogs, homeless cats are still being euthanized. From early spring through late fall each year, shelters around the United States are inundated with adult mother cats and litters of kittens. This "Kitten Season" is a heavy burden on shelters and the euthanasia of cats during this time increases. By spaying/neutering more cats in Utah's communities, the HSU is helping reduce the need for euthanasia of healthy, adoptable cats in Utah’s shelters.
