Lee - A day at the Drive-in

Kirt’s Drive-In, a fixture in North Ogden for decades, was hopping on April 15th and it had nothing to do with filing taxes or even a belated April Fool’s prank. Dozens of teenagers stepped to the counter to order burgers, fries, and, oh yes, a tasty milkshake! Teens were being treated to some delicious food by none other than Utah’s U.S. Senator Mike Lee. He and staff members met the Pleasant View City Junior Council and North Ogden City Junior Council members at 5PM and they all “chowed down” – Yumm!

Local Church Activities - New Life North View Church

New Life North View Church held a Community Easter candy hunt and activities at Plain City Park on Saturday April 19th. There were kids of all ages just waiting for the activities to start. There was a bouncy house, face painting, raffles and a special guest: The Amazing Adam (Comedian, Illusionist). There were non-stop activities for the kids; and it seemed the adults had a lot of fun too.

Local Church Activities

Alpine Church members have been meeting Saturdays at Buzz Brew in Brigham City, where they have been working the practice greens. They have been out on the course at Eagle Mountain in Brigham City, as well. They have been out working the greens every Saturday starting in March, since they all have had ‘Spring Fever’.

Scouting for food Drive

On March 22nd, 1,435 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and their leaders participated in the 28th annual Scouting for Food Drive.  The group is from the Weber View District, which serves North Ogden, Pleasant View, Harrisville, Farr West, and Plain City. The food drive was very successful in collecting 52,400 pounds of food which was collected and transported to the Ogden Rescue Mission. They would like to thank the public for their generosity of the donated food items. The amount collected was nearly 30% more than last year. They appreciated the donation of time by the youth and the leaders.

Fremont Girls Basketball Team’s Incredible Journey

To say that the girls’ basketball team at Fremont High School had an amazing season would be an understatement. After all, not many teams win a state title and then have the opportunity to play in an elite tournament in New York, but that’s exactly what this team has done. Only four teams in the entire country competed in the Dicks’ Sporting Goods High School Tournament for girls’ basketball. Fremont was ranked 3rd, with Riverdale Baptist from Maryland as the top seed, and Miami and Edgewater from Florida as the 2nd and 4th ranked teams, respectively.

UTOPIA Update

UTOPIA has almost become a dreaded word for council members of Brigham City as they try to deal with the very complex issues that have risen with trying to bring wonderfully fast fiber optic internet service to the residents of Brigham City. At first the appeal seemed too hard to pass up, fast cheap internet, everywhere? Why the possibilities were endless, tourists would flock to the small cities, businessmen would come in droves, why city coffers would be overflowing with abundance thanks to it.

House Republicans are moving to set up a select committee to investigate the Benghazi attacks. The House could vote this week on establishing the panel, which House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has said would be led by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), a former federal prosecutor.
