No Vote for South Willard Annexation
Contrary to swirling rumors, the annexation of South Willard will not be on the ballot this November, according to the Box Elder Commissioner's office. In fact, residents of either Willard or South Willard will likely never vote on the issue of annexation.
During a special hearing in May, Box Elder County Attorney, Stephen Hadfield, explained that in order to be annexed, at minimum, fifty-one percent of South Willard private property owners would need to sign and submit a formal petition in favor of the annexation. Additionally, the combined property value owned by the signers would have to total at least one-third of the total private property value of South Willard.
Once a petition is submitted, the Willard City Council would have 14 days to accept or reject the petition. If accepted, South Willard would be officially annexed.
According to the commission, no other discussions have been held since May and no other hearings are planned for the future.
