SCAM - A person came into the City Office terrified with their phone on speaker. A man had called her and claimed to be part of a law enforcement investigation team. There was a murder in Texas and they found this person's blood at the scene. The man threatened the person with arrest.  This person had never been in Texas and legitimate investigations will work with local law enforcement not call over the phone and threaten. They will fool you by giving you bits of personal information such as your address or sometimes the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number and asking you to verify the rest. Do not give out personal information.  Don't be fooled by phone scams claiming they have your children or grandchildren or that you will be arrested. HANG UP! Once you respond they will continue to call and become more aggressive. Generally the call originates from another country and ends up with you wiring or purchasing cards from a local retailer.  Contact Box Elder County Dispatch to report fraud at 435-734-3800.

The Fall open burn period is from September 15 – October 30. Extremely dry conditions still exist, but rain may be heading our way! NO BURN PERMITS WILL BE ISSUED UNLESS THE CLEARING INDEX IS ABOVE 500 for Airshed 4. Links to check the index are available at www.willardcity.com or by calling the Box Elder County Fire Marshal at 435-734-3345. The Division of Air Quality regulates this, not the County Fire Marshal.

CERT - It’s never too early to plan for emergencies, but it is all too often too late. CERT Classes are scheduled to begin October 30, and will continue on November 1st, 3rd, 6th, 8th and 10th.  Weekday classes are from 6:00 pm -9:30 pm and Saturday classes are from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. This is great information to help your family become prepared when an emergency hits.  An emergency can be as little as the power being out for more than a couple of hours or the water turned off because of a line break to a major disaster such as an earthquake.  Are you prepared??? Contact Sue Anderson at 801-589-8270 to sign up or if you have any questions or would be interested in any refresher courses. Sign-up sheets are also available at City Hall.

Elections this year are being held by mail. Ballots will be mailed out October 16, 2018. Contact the Box Elder County Clerk’s office at 435-734-3393 or visit their website at http://www.boxeldercounty.org/elections.htm if you have any questions.
