A Big Hand for the Little Lady!

First Lady, that is.

First, let me say that I think Melania Trump is terrific.  She’s beautiful, and I’m sure charming in any situation.  She speaks well for America.  Kind of like Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Although not your typical American mom and apple pie girl, she exudes a refreshingly exotic femininity to the presidency and White House that we haven’t seen since the days of Jackie Kennedy, who was no slouch.  And Melania’s $3 million 10th anniversary diamond wedding ring is every bit as much a knock-out as she is.  In fact, she proudly wears it in her official White house photo.

Wears it, not flaunts it.  That would be gauche.

Either way, this seemingly minor bejeweled presidential wardrobe footnote deserves some attention.

I’m not necessarily trying to be critical of Mrs. Trump, and I don’t mean to appear disrespectful, I’ll leave that to the media and public opinion, but between her obvious beauty and her position in life she is a natural target for those who envy, and also a model, supermodel, for those who aspire to her level of good fortune regarding both bone structure and nuptial accord.  Although both could be a curse as well as a blessing.

I wonder how Norman Rockwell would have portrayed the Trumps?

Although the photo was released last April, people are still talking.  Apparently, there is some kerfuffle over Melania’s lavish wardrobe, her stunning appearance and her $3 million rock.

I think they’re all just jealous, maybe even prejudiced.

The Trumps are simply different from you and I.  Is that such a crime?  They are filthy rich, or at least they play the part well, and they enjoy a lifestyle most people dream about.  They just happen to live in the White House as President and First Lady.  There is something almost corrosively poetic about it.  It must be hard to be them, hard for them, all the criticism and public ridicule.

But I’m not willing to take a knee for them just yet.

As First Lady, we expect much more from Melania.  Being exotically beautiful can be a hardship is a sense, but she could step up to the plate more often and do something for which we can admire her, because so far, I’m not feeling it.  She may be a private person, shy, perhaps uncomfortable with the language, but some things just come along with the territory.  She’s starting to appear arrogant, although I do not believe that is her style or intention.  She needs to roll up her sleeves and get her hands dirty, or at least make that impression.

Just consider the past First Ladies.  Jackie Kennedy with her famous Whit House tour.  Lady Bird Johnson had her highway beautification campaign.  Pat Nixon, restoration of the White House.  Betty Ford championed alcoholism and breast cancer issues.  Nancy Reagan, “Just Say No” to drugs.  Barbara Bush, AIDS awareness.  Laura Bush, literacy.  Michelle Obama, childhood nutrition.

Melania Trump condemns bullying and has spoken out against it, but her campaign seems to have gone flat.  Mrs. Trump’s remarks about anti-bullying were criticized by many, including Lady Ga Ga, as a “hypocrisy” pointing out that her husband, Donald Trump, “is one of the most notorious bullies we have ever witnessed.”  Melania was trumped by Lady Ga Ga.

Girl just can’t catch a break.  I hope she’s not being bullied by you know who.

Melania is an interesting lady.  According to Wikipedia, she was born Melanija Knavs in Novo Mesto, Slovenia on April 26, 1970.  She’s 47.  Slovenia was then part of Yugoslavia and is now bordered by Croatia, Hungary, Austria and Northern Italy near the north Adriatic sea.  Her father managed a car and motorcycle dealership, her mother was a pattern maker at a children’s clothing manufacturer.  As a child she participated in fashion shows.  She has an older sister, Ines, and an older half-brother.  When she was a teenager, she and her family moved to Sevnica, Slovenia, then in high school, they lived in a high-rise apartment in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.  She attended the Secondary School of Design and Photography there, and studied architecture and design at the University of Ljublijana for one year before dropping out.

When she began working as a professional model, she translated the Slovene version of her name “Knavs” to the German version “Knauss”.  At eighteen she signed with a modeling agency in Milan, Italy and her modeling career took off from there.  She did very well and became an international supermodel.

She moved to New York City in 1996.  She met Donald Trump n 1998.  They were married in 2005.

Melania did very well for herself, she is a bright and intelligent lady.  Our American First Lady, like it or not.  She is not to blame.  However, Melania Trump, you have a responsibility to us.  You my be, excuse my possibly misinformed expression, a “Trophy Wife” to The Donald, but you are not our “Trophy First Lady”.

We expect more of you.

In the long line of famous First Ladies, Rosalynn Carter, was one of her husband’s closest advisors sitting in on many cabinet meetings.  Jimmy Carter was one of our most beloved presidents.

Please do something more, Melania.  Show us the woman that you are.  Your husband is kind of a bully.  He’s kind of a liar.  The Republican tax plan and healthcare plan went south potentially hurting many millions of Americans and helping many hundreds of rich corporations and millionaires.  And I’m thinking that was the plan or non-plan all along, as the Democrats and Republicans continue their incessant, sophomoric congressional ass grabbing, getting nowhere for the American people.

U.S. Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, is making a fool of himself and America, lying through his teeth to one congressional committee and senate hearing after another, while Robert Mueller is waiting in the wings ready to drop a Russian bombshell on your husband and your life.

Ivanka is stepping up to the plate speaking out against Roy Moore regarding the sexual assault allegations against him saying, “There’s a special place in hell for people who prey on children.”  Good for Ivanka!

Melania, you’re up.  Use your intelligence and your power as First Lady of the United States to rock the boat a little, before your ship sinks.
