A big thank you to Jennifer Johnson and all the volunteers who provided trunks, cooked scones, directed traffic and cleaned up, after Trunk-n-Treating.  Also, a big thank you to all those who donated candy and money to make the event possible.  Hundreds of people enjoyed a safe evening for the children.  Thousands of pieces of candy and prizes were passed out!

After the tragic loss of Officer Brotherson in West Valley earlier this month, our wonderful Willard Police orchestrated taking three West Valley police officers up to the flagpole, and let them hang an American flag—the thin blue line flag that was up there earlier this year—and they brought a West Valley Officer's uniform shirt to hang up under the thin blue line flag.  They then brought the two flags down, and will be presenting them to the family of the fallen officer, but they left his shirt up on the pole.

Ralph Bennett wrote, “I would like to ask everyone in Willard to take a moment tomorrow morning and look up at our beloved flagpoles. It may be hard to see, but there is an empty police officer's shirt hanging from the smaller pole. This shirt belonged to a West Valley Police officer who was senselessly killed Sunday morning just doing his job, trying to stop teens from stealing a car. The shirt was placed on the pole and left there at the request of three West Valley Police officers. One was a good friend, another desperately tried in vain to save his life. Please ponder for a moment the significance of this—an empty shirt that was worn by a local hero, will never again have the beating heart of a lion inside it. The larger pole remains empty, as the rest of the officers in our state must carry on, acting like nothing happened, still responding to the same calls as before, but knowing that a brother has fallen. Tonight, as has been the case for the three nights before, a family, brothers and a fiancé have had to go to bed, and wake up, knowing he is gone.”

“Please, take a moment tomorrow and look up at our beloved flagpoles, and recognize that no matter who wins or loses in the elections, what we have to do tomorrow, that empty shirt will still be there, and be grateful that you have such amazing police officers in your wonderful Willard who could so easily be asked to give that ultimate sacrifice any day, and they would do it gladly for you. Be grateful for them, this week is going to be a hard one for them, an empty shirt is a brother lost that will not be coming home again in this life.”

The thin blue line tribute from all law enforcement agencies in our county to the West Valley officer who was killed. It was a very emotional trip for them, and everyone involved. Every law enforcement agency in the county sent their head administrators in support of these officers. All three flags will be presented to the family of the fallen officer, so they can know that their family in northernmost Utah loves and supports them in this extremely difficult time.

With the staging area just to the south of the cemetery, many people saw the helicopter and were worried that another tragic event had occurred. We have a picture of the support in this emotional tribute to the fallen police officer. The flag pole on a clear day can be seen from West Valley.

There has been announcement on the old post office doors. It is being remodeled for a new business coming in December. This will be a shop with new and old trinkets and decor items. Watch for more information.

WILLARD CREEK DEBRIS BASIN PARK -

Many have noticed the addition of the bridge and paved walking trail in the Debris Basin area. The project; however, is not yet complete and there are safety issues that are being addressed. Caution tape, signs, and blockades have been put on either side of the bridge for the safety of the citizens and mostly the children. Please leave them in place until they are removed by City Personnel after these safety measures have been put in place. The trail is available for walking and bicycling. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail. The trail has not been designed for motorcycles, side-by-sides, ATVs of any sort and especially cars and trucks. These will damage the track and will result in costly repairs. Please report any motorized vehicles you see on the trails with a description of the vehicle and license plate, if at all possible. This is going to be a great addition to our community and we ask that the citizens keep an eye out for those that are causing damage to it.

Winter is on the way! Please make sure vehicles, trailers, landscaping rocks, debris piles, etc. are not in the City right-of-way. This is for the safety of our drivers and will also avoid damaging the City equipment and your property. If the snow cannot be pushed off the asphalt it melts across the road and freezes during the cold nighttime hours. This causes hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians.

Tis the Season -Many car thefts have been reported from people who have left purses, check books, wallets, electronics and other valuable items in plain sight in an unlocked vehicle. Please take these items out of your vehicles and lock the vehicle. Be sure and lock your house doors and report suspicious vehicles or individuals. Chief Loveland would rather check things out and avoid such incidents.

BE County dispatch at 435-734-3800 option 0 for non-emergencies and 911 if it is an emergency.
