Willard City March Updates

Batter Up! It’s time for youth baseball.  Sign up forms are available online at willardcity.com.  Signup sheets can be mailed with a check or money order to the City office or delivered with payment to the City office. The City cannot take debit or credit cards. The deadline for signing up is March 31, 2017.

Spring run-off residents in Northern Box Elder County have already experienced flooding due to the higher than normal snow amounts we received this winter. Members of the awesome Willard City CERT team were activated to help fill sandbags and help with the many volunteers who have helped in the Elwood, Garland, and Tremonton areas.  The bad news is, we haven’t even hit the peak run-off season. The flooding hits different areas as the water table rises and with warmer temperatures the snowpack in the mountains will begin to melt. Don’t try and drive through flooded areas and beware of fast moving rivers and streams, especially keeping kids and animals away. Contact the City Office at 435-734-9881 or Box Elder County Dispatch at 435-734-3800 if you experience flooding or are in need of sandbags.

WILLARD/PERRY KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP

Children who will be five years of age before September 2, 2017, are about to start a wonderful and exciting adventure. At this time, we are trying to locate incoming kindergarten students in the Willard/Perry communities. If you have a child eligible for kindergarten, contact the school by calling 435-734-4934 or stop by the school located at 40 W 50 S in Willard between 9:00 am-3:00 pm. The traditional round-up at USU will not happen this year. Willard will hold a ‘Meet and Greet’ in April. Students whose last name begins with the letters A-K will come April 12th at 2:30 pm. and students whose last names begin with L-Z will come on April 19th at 2:30 pm.

4th of July volunteers are needed!  It’s hard to believe it is time to start planning for the 4th of July. This has been a long standing celebration for the community and residents past and present. If you would like to be part of planning this year’s celebration, please contact the City Office at 435-734-9881 or by email at willardcity@comcast.net to volunteer for the committee.

Starting March 30 through May 31, residential burning will be allowed. Remember to get your burn permit from the county.

Congratulations to the 2017 CERT Spring Class graduates.

The 1st grade had their Spring program on March 22nd, with 3 shows at the Willard school. It was all about freindship and learnning that everyone is differant but we are all freinds. They all sang with actions, with 5 first grades the teachers did a great job on make each one a superhero of freindship. Great Job Kids and Teachers!

Update - UDOT I-15 Project:  Construction on final items and road repairs will begin as the weather permits.  www.udot.utah.gov/i15boxelder. Additional striping and bonding is scheduled to take place in summer 2017.

Hwy 89 widening Project – UPDATE: Information received from UDOT explained the widening of HWY 89 is for a bike lane along each side. Unfortunately, the funding for the project will only allow it from the Box Elder/Weber County Line to 1800 ft. North of 7150 S in South Willard. This project will be going on from now through the summer.

US-89; Shoulders improved SR-126 to SR-315

The US-89; Shoulders Project is about to start. UDOT will be doing work to widen the shoulders on Main Street (US-89). This work will take place along US-89 in Willard starting near mile post 426 and extending almost to the junction of SR-126 and Us-89.

The intent of this project is to improve safety for those traveling by automobile and bicycle, by providing a paved standard shoulder in places that now only have a gravel shoulder.

During this project, all work will be done within the existing right of way, UDOT will not be purchasing any property in coordination with this widening project.

UDOT and our Public Involvement Team are here to work with you and keep you informed throughout this project. There may be some existing structures (including mailboxes) that are currently in the UDOT right of way that will need to be relocated outside of the right of way area.

Preliminary work to clear structures from the right of way and to remove topsoil along the shoulders is expected to begin March 15, 2017. Staker Parson has been selected as the contractor to perform the work.

Work will normally occur Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This project is expected to be substantially complete during the month of August 2017.

If you would like to receive a weekly update that provides information about expected impacts each week during the construction, please send an email to us89shoulders@utah.gove and write “updates” in the subject line.

Schedules are subject to change due to materials availability or weather.
