I am deeply concerned that Representative Chaffetz, as Chair of the House Oversight Committee, is not holding Donald Trump accountable for his conflicts of interest. In August last year, Chaffetz said, “If you’re going to run and try to become President of the United States, you’re going to have to open your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records.” But now Chaffetz seems to be giving Trump a free pass, and instead is going after public servants, such as Walter Shaub, head of the Office of Government Ethics, who has been doing his job as best he can despite being under pressure to vet cabinet nominees in record time so that they can be rammed through Congress. Based on a recent poll, 65% of Utahans are interested in learning about Trump’s tax returns and want Chaffetz to do his job. The people of Utah are a good reflection of the rest of the country, who want to know the same information. tThe Salt Lake City Tribune has covered this story, but more papers should be following this story, wherever it leads. What is in Trump’s tax returns that he is adamant about not releasing them? He has no excuses and needs to be honest with the American people about his investments and his business relationships with Russia.

Hello,
Back in August, Representative Chaffetz said to then President-elect Trump, "If you're going to run and try to become the President of the United States, you're going to have to open up your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records...." But now I am deeply concerned that Rep. Chaffetz, as Chair of the House of the Oversight Committee, is not holding Trump accountable for his conflicts of interest.
As a newspaper in Utah, I am asking you to please continue to cover this important story. Based on recent pollings from the Salt Lake City Tribune, the people of Utah want Rep. Chaffetz to do his job. I hope you will continue to actively serve your role as our watchdogs for factual information and continue to cover this important story on behalf of US citizens.
Thank you for your consideration.

I'm writing to call your attention to a story concerning Representative Chaffetz. In August, Representative Chaffetz said, "If you're going to run and try to become the president of the US, you're going to have to open up your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records." I was quite proud of him that day, and I could not agree more.
Since that time, many of us have been deeply disappointed that he seems to be giving Trump a free pass and instead going after the head of the Office of Government Ethics.
Based on the recent poll by the Salt Lake City Tribune, the people of Utah want Mr. Chaffetz to do his job and demand accountability and transparency. As a newspaper in Utah and a watchdog of our democracy, I ask you to cover this important story.
Thank you for your time.

to me
Hello,
I’m a concerned citizen. Since Donald Trump’s election I feel that Representative Chaffetz of the House Oversight Committee is not holding Trump accountable for his many conflicts of interest. Chaffetz originally called for Trump to be more transparent, for example calling for him to reveal his tax returns. Now it seems he’s giving Trump a free pass, which is not what our process, our democracy is about! I’m reaching out to you as a responsible news organization and asking that this story be covered. Polls show that the people of Utah want Mr. Chaffetz to do his job.
Thank you for your time and your news coverage,

Dear Editor,
I am writing to ask that the Sentinel News cover the story of how Representative Chaffetz, in his capacity as Chair of the House Oversight Committee, is backing down from his stance on President Trump's conflicts of interest. In August he insisted that Donald Trump release his tax returns, but recently he has abandoned this stance. I am very worried that President Trump has investments all over the world, including in Russia, that taint his ability to serve the American people. Seeing his tax returns would help resolve whether this worry is well-founded.
Please do your part to uphold our democracy and cover the story of whether Rep. Chaffetz is taking appropriate actions on this matter.
Sincerely,
Kendra Brown
