I’m concerned that the Chair of the House Oversight Committee is not holding Donald Trump accountable for his conflicts of interest. I think this is an extremely important story that you should cover.
Thank you!

Editors of Sentinel News,
I am deeply concerned that Representative Chaffetz, as Chair of the House Oversight Committee, is not holding Donald Trump accountable for his conflicts of interest. In August he wisely said “If you’re going to run and try to become the president of the United States, you’re going to have to open up your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records,” But these days he seems to be giving Trump a free pass and instead going after public servants like the head of the Office of Government Ethics.
As a newspaper in Utah I'm asking you to cover this important story. Based on the recent poll by the Salt Lake City Tribune, the people of Utah want Mr. Chaffetz to do his job. We applaud the Salt Lake City Tribune’s coverage of this story.
I hope that you will serve your role as our watchdogs of democracy and cover this important story.
Best,
Danielle Germain

As a very fortunate citizen of our United States, I am troubled that Representative Jason Chaffetz of Utah, in his capacity as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, seems to be overlooking his responsibility to hold President Trump accountable for clear conflicts of interest. In August of this year, Mr. Chaffetz, very admirably, called on Candidate Trump to release his tax returns and medical records. In October, the Representative withdrew his endorsement of Donald Trump due to inappropriate and vulgar comments. He then did an entire about face and did endorse Mr. Trump. My trust, as a citizen, in this Representative's proclamations and decisions is shaken to say the least!
Now Rep. Chaffetz and fellow Republican Oversight Committee members are maneuvering to force Mr. Walter Schaub, Director of the Office of Government Ethics, to hold meetings concerning these presidential conflicts of interest in private! How can we as US citizens trust in a secret process orchestrated by a man whose announcements and decisions have been so unreliable? According to the Salt Lake Tribune and the Hinckley Institute for Politics, 65% of registered voters in Utah support a probe into this issue; and only 31% are opposed. Conducting these meetings and making them open to the public is very important in establishing trust in our government and leaders!
We US citizens are counting on you and the talented, committed journalists on your staff to cover this story and continue to serve as the guardians of our democracy. We are all depending on you. Thank you for all you do!

am writing to express my concern that Representative Chaffetz, as Chair of the House Oversight Committee, is not holding Donald Trump accountable for his conflicts of interest, and to ask you to please cover this story and ensure that your readers understand its implications. Back in August, Chaffetz proclaimed, “If you’re going to run and try to become the president of the United States, you’re going to have to open up your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records,” But now he has dropped his criticism of Trump and has shifted his guns to public servants like the head of the Office of Government Ethics. The Salt Lake City Tribune has stepped up and reported on this issue, noting that sixty-five percent of Utahns want Mr. Chaffetz to do his job. I hope you’ll take your cue from the Tribune’s coverage of this issue, help protect Americans from the abuse of government power, and report this important story.
Best,
Sarah
