For anyone who read the whole article in the Standard earlier this week, “North Ogden to Address Sunday Parks Closure” they would find towards the end of the article that this agenda item for the September 25th City Council Meeting was never intended to be a discussion about anything more than possibly closing parks to leagues on Sundays.  Unfortunately, many citizens only heard the title of this article or the discussion on KSL’s Doug Wright show Tuesday and feared the worst.  Over 40 people attended Tuesday night’s meeting, many stating their feelings in the Public Comments portion of the meeting.

Councilman Wade Bigler shared his reasons for questioning the situation.  Several residents have expressed concerns over leagues bringing high levels of traffic and the noise of many people and referee whistles.  Bigler asserted that no North Ogden leagues participate in Sunday games, so there are teams coming from other cities to use parks paid for by North Ogden residents.  Another concern he expressed is that the grass could use a break one day a week where it is not being trampled under heavy use.  Ogden rotates days for parks where the grass if given such a break.

After some discussion among Council Members, Mayor Harris, and City Attorney, Jonathan Call, the decision was ultimately reached to leave the ordinances as they now stand, allowing leagues to continue reserving the parks for Sunday play.
