The Sisterhood Podcast: Lifting One Another

This past Fall, I was invited by a dear friend of mine to meet up with the Sisterhood Podcast to render service in the Ogden area.  I had no idea what the Sisterhood Podcast was, but I knew it was going to be good!  How can giving service in conjunction with meeting new women ever be a bad thing? I had to check it out!

I drove to the Catholic Community Services in Ogden where I met up with a small group of women, including my friend, Danelle Skelton. There, I was introduced to Tiffany Sowby and Allyson Reynolds who founded The Sisterhood Podcast. Absolutely delightful, engaging women!

So, what is the Sisterhood Podcast?  Believe me, you are going to want to learn more about it!

If you look at their website: www.thesisterhoodpodcast.com it reads, “Firm believers that women rise when they lift each other, Allyson Reynolds and Tiffany Sowby hope to bring women together in faith and community through their weekly podcast conversations and monthly “Service & Sweets Events.”

If you are ever interested in events that surround women—they will talk about it.  If you need a conversation that buoys you up even if you’re feeling like a failure—they’ll address it. If you’re looking for more connection or ways to contribute to others in your own life—you can totally join them at any of their upcoming events.

These two ladies are here to enlighten, empower, strengthen and help women be their best selves—and both Sowby and Reynolds won’t sit idle behind the microphone.  They’ll be out there right along side you making a difference too!

Upon entering the doors of the Catholic Community Services, I noticed a saying on the bulletin board for volunteers which read, “People are homeless, hungry, and sick.  Somebody should do something about this. Be Somebody.”

I knew I was in the right place at the right time on that Fall morning in October. I was eager to lend a hand and serve.  For about two hours, we helped sort canned/dry food items into large bins.  All the while, talking and learning from each other about our day to day lives.  I was accomplishing two things at once: meeting new friends and serving the community.  Being a part of the Sisterhood Podcast that morning was refreshing to me. Catholic Community Services was so thankful for our efforts and talked to us about the joy of volunteering and how they would love to have us back again.

This small gathering with the Sisterhood Podcast I attended is affectionately called a “Service and Sweets Event.”  Currently, they are held along the Wasatch Front in Utah but, down the road, Sowby and Reynolds hope to expand that vision in hopes that other women will organize these events in their own communities.

Additionally, on the Sisterhood Podcast website it says, “We feel passionately that these events can provide real in-person connections with other women in positive and meaningful ways and give us a few hours to step out of our too-often self- absorbed schedules and lives.”

I wasn’t able to go but, after helping at the CCS in Ogden, each of the women headed up to Weber State University and got a sweet snack while sharing in the experience just created.

“We see value in bringing women together for a couple of hours of meaningful service and then enjoying dessert.”

After having met Tiffany Sowby she told me, “I loved meeting you today, and really feel grateful for our conversation.  I believe women are in this together, being inspired by others is one of my favorite things!”

I left that morning with a renewal to be more open to the idea of service.  Open to being more aware of myself, meeting new faces, and how I can lend a hand to others in need.
