Several students throughout Utah came together for an exciting day of Battlebot competition. Spectators were welcome and all ages came through the doors to watch creativity battle it out! Once again, I brought my kids and the entertainment did not disappoint!

The 2018 Rocky Mountain Battlebot League (RMBL) located at the Ogden-Weber Applied Tech College, brought in schools from all around Utah.

Students need to follow specific criteria to compete. Program manager of the Rocky Mountain Battlebot League, Bret Holmes, said, “Students will design, build and test their robot. They will create a documentation notebook. If the team does not have the documentation notebook, they will not be able to be crowned the State champion.”

Schools such as Hunter High, Corner Canyon, and Green Canyon High School were new to the Battlebot competition this year.

Each battlebot had a very unique name and included a team of students plus an advisor who helped coordinate the building process. Here they are as follows:

The Rocky Mountain Battlebot League allows high school students the opportunity to share in an exciting, hands-on team experience wherein they design and build a 15 pound Bot to battle it out in a gladiator-style competition.  Skills are developed in mechanical and electrical engineering, machining, project management, communication, innovation, problem solving and team work.

The RMBL has a great purpose, which is to expose students to the technical and soft skills needed for their future in the workforce. Opportunities such as taking tours of the facilities, witnessing right off-hand how fulfilling a career in manufacturing can be. Educators and industry leaders are able to come together, in connection with these aspiring students, and generate the programs that will train the future workforce.

If you have interest in getting involved with the RMBL as an educator, industry partner, or as a sponsor, you may contact Maddie Dahl-Chapter Executive of the NUNTMA at 801-337-7097 or chapterexec@nuntma.org
