The ‘Light the World’ campaign, which was first introduced last year by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is relaunching again and invites all to join in.  The global campaign has one main theme: service.  This initiative will run from now until Christmas Day.

Elder Brent H. Neilson of the Seventy and executive director of the LDS Church’s Missionary Department said, “The goal of the initiative is to encourage Church members to serve others as Jesus Christ taught in the Bible.”

Those participating can share their experiences by using the hashtag #LighttheWorld on social media.

“What a great thing!” says Trisha Taggart of North Ogden and mother of 5. “Short videos to help us remember Christ with only a couple clicks.  Thinking outside ourselves is a big part of feeling that Spirit of Christmas.”

As you ponder this Christmas season, think about this famous saying, “In a world where you can be anything-BE KIND.” Kindness begins with YOU! And you can start within the walls of you own home.  From there, let your kindness spread into your neighborhood and community!  Take part in the amazing feeling that accompanies service.

As we celebrate the birth of the Savior, Jesus Christ, each of us can take the time to ponder the meaning of his life in our own.  We can lend a hand where needed and lift another’s burdens.  We can do something every day to reach out to our fellow man and, in turn, our Savior.  As we follow his example we can truly, ‘Light the World.’

Arrienne Winzeler of Harrisville, and mom to two young children (and one on the way) said, “I love the ‘Light the World’ initiative.  My favorite thing about it is the simplicity of the various acts of service that are suggested. It reminds us how simple it is to show Christlike love to others. “

Winzeler goes onto say, “We know from Alma 37:6 (in the Book of Mormon) that ‘…By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.’ I am excited to participate and feel that true Spirit of Christmas as we share the love of the Savior with others.”

If you go to www.mormon.org, you can find the monthly calendar for December with each day depicting an activity/thought/video of to help ‘Light the World.’   You can also stay connected and receive updates as well as notifications about the #LighttheWorld initiative by including your email.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, often called “Mormons,” believe first and foremost that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer.  The Church’s mission is to help us meet the challenges of this life and to help us follow Jesus Christ, so that we will be worthy of the temporal and spiritual blessings God wants for us.

Taggart also says, “I think taking a little time each day to at least think about how we can help others is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves and our family.”

Day 1 of the “Light the World” campaign shares this: Jesus taught: “Freely ye have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8).  After viewing the brief video, you can then read a short explanation of the scripture, “Jesus made it clear that everything we have is a gift freely given from God. We should be grateful for all that we have and be willing to give just as freely to others.”  You may click on “View Suggestions” which will give you further ideas as to how you can “Give Freely.”

You can visit www.JustServe.org for more ways to #LightTheWorld in your community.
