James Madison, Father of the U.S. Constitution, once wrote:
“The number of individuals employed under the Constitution of the United States will be much smaller than the number employed under the particular States.”
Madison was describing a governing balance designed into our form of government. The vast majority of governing responsibility was to fall at the state, county, and local levels. The Federal Government's governing responsibility was expressly limited to about 17 items. And, in fact, there are well over 7,300 STATE legislators, county commissioners, and city council representatives to tend the the peoples' business....the federal government is only allotted 535 elected officials, excluding the Presidency.
Think about that...how can only 535 distant public servants (not "leaders") possibly be effective and responsive to the will of millions and millions of Americans? The truth is, they can't....and they aren't, and they never were supposed to be governing over so many citizens. And, of course, the result of so much concentrated power with so few elected officials, has resulted in rampant corruption and cronyism, and numerous agencies and commissions that not even congress can control without an "act of congress" and the President's signature.
Yet, over time Washington D.C. has managed to grasp a much, much larger piece of the governing pie; so much so that there really is not a facet of our lives that Washington doesn't impact. Doesn't matter much anymore "how" that happened. What matters now is "how" can concerned citizens restore the nation's governing balance and return most of the governing responsibilities to the states, counties and local governments? One thing is for sure, Washington D.C. will never willingly give it up.
There is a lawful, constitutional tool found in Article V of the U.S. Constitution. Founder, George Mason, insisted that Article V be included in the Constitution to allow the states, and only the states, to be able to amend the Constitution. Yes friends, there are two ways to amend the Constution: one by Congress, and the other EXCLUSIVELY by your and my State Legislators, with virtually no interference allowed by Congress, the President, or the Federal Courts.
The time has come for American's to circumvent the Den of Corruption in Washington and to restore the governing balance intended by the Founding Fathers. The nation's Founders strongly believed that individual freedom and liberty is best preserved close to home. By placing the bulk of governing responsibility close to the citizen, the citizen has the greatest opportunity, or clout, to oversee and influence their public servants.
Please consider joining the effort of tens of thousands across the nation to support the Assembly of States project. Many state legislators are coming together to participate in the process to amend the Constitution. Three states have already passed resolutions to participate (Alaska, Florida, Georgia), and many more are in the process of signing up.
What a blessing the Founders' have given us....a way to bring Washington under control, reduce the massive debt burden imposed on our children and grandchildren; and it can all be done without the input or interferene of even one, single Washington D.C. official.
But we need your help. Please log onto conventionofstates.org to learn more. Then contact your state legislator and ask him/her if he/she supports the Article V movement. Time is short, but thousands across the country are joining our cause and liberty is on the move.
