Every Wednesday from June 20th, 2018-August 29th, 2018 there has been a myriad of mountain bikers from all ages and skill levels coming up to Snowbasin.  Here, they’ve tested their abilities on the trail and navigated their way to success and improvement.

If this is something you’ve never heard of before and you’re new to mountain biking or you’re a long-time enthusiast of the sport, you’ll still want to check out the Mt. Ogden Weekly Race Series!

Here’s the scoop on what you can expect:

Each rider pays a small $15.00 registration fee per night and a $10.00 one-time plate fee for the series. A one-time purchase for the whole season was only a total of $105 for all races. Or, if you wanted to pay for all races plus a Summer Gondola pass it was only $125.  A great deal.  So, think about it for next summer!

Here are the Categories for both men and women in the weekly series:

Pro-6:30 p.m. start

Expert-6:31 start

Sport-6:32 start

Beginner-6:33 start

There were also kids races which are really fun were only a $5.00 entry fee. They began at 6:45 p.m.

All racers needed to fill out a release form for the season.  Minors needed to have a parent or legal guardian sign the release form.  Helmets were expected to be worn by all the racers anytime they were riding their bikes.

There are prizes and recognition that come with each of the races: Pro, Expert, Sport, and Beginner. Divisions for each race had a prize for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places for both male and females. Points were also awarded to racers based on finish placements and their total or cumulative throughout the whole season. Each of the series winners was recognized at the last race of the season.

Each of the courses for the particular races was always available for the riders to see on the Snowbasin series website found here: www.snowbasin.com/mtogdenraceseries

Riders were familiar with the rides ahead of time and could even go up and practice ride through the course.

Many sponsors stepped up and helped considerably with the Snowbasin weekly series.  The title sponsor was Intermountain McKay-Dee Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic

Supporting Sponsors were as follows: The Front Climbing Club, Hyper Threads (www.hyperthreads.com), and Shift Works.

Weekly sponsors included: Diamond Peak Mountain Sports, Skyline Cycle, The Bike Shoppe, and 2nd Tracks and Hyper Threads.

Having had a son compete in the Sport series this season at the Snowbasin Mt. Ogden Weekly Race Series was a total blast!  He thrived in this environment—surrounded by fellow bikers who gave him some fierce competition. As a family, we loved coming up to support him and cheer him on!

Other families came and set out blankets and lawn chairs—enjoying a picnic dinner or ordering food and drink available for purchase.

The excitement was thick in the air!  And the comradery afterward was amazing.  Everyone was cheering each other on and complimenting the next person even if they didn’t win.

My son, Seth, was really happy with his final results by the end of the series—and so were we!  He took 1st place on the last race and 1st place overall in the Sport series. What a victory!  We were super proud parents and with my Dad there—he was a super proud Grandpa!

Also, with the last race was a free slice of Lucky Slice Pizza.  Yum!  Everyone was happy about free dinner! And cookies, too.  Thanks, Lucky Slice Pizza!

Next year my younger boys, ages 7 and 10, want to be part of the weekly series too!  And we’re excited to let them!

So, come check it out the mountain biking trails and see for yourself what the Snowbasin weekly rides are all about or you can check out their website at www.snowbasin.com/mtogdenraceseries
