Ogden, Utah, June 6, 2016 — Every year, people across the country die while working in agriculture from heat-related illnesses including Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke. This year, the HOT Program began training agricultural workers about Heat illness and the responses from the farm, ranch, and other agricultural workers demonstrate that this training is very important to them. So far this year, 51% of the agricultural workers trained by the HOT Program report having experience Heat-related Illnesses while working. 47% of the HOT trainees said they had not know that they could die from heat-related illnesses while working in agriculture.
The FREE “Heat-stress Occupational Training” HOT Program trainings cover: (1) Heat Related Illnesses Common In Agricultural Worksites; (2) Employer Responsibilities; (3) Heat Illness - Workplace Prevention; (4) Recognizing Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion, Heat Stress and Heat Stroke; AND (5) Emergency Procedures For Workplace Heat Illness
“US agricultural workers have died from heat related illnesses while working in 83 degree temperatures. Utah’s growing seasons get a lot hotter than that and we want the people who work so hard to feed us all to be safe while working in our extreme temperatures.” Said HOT Program Manager, Corrie Hout.
