TRANSCAER® Chlorine Emergency Response Training

WHO:                TRANSCAER (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response), UP, BNSF and The Chlorine Institute host three one-day training programs for emergency responders from the Salt Lake City region.  Media are invited to cover this event.

WHAT:           Hands-on and classroom activities will cover best practices regarding safety, security and emergency response for chlorine.  There is no charge for responders and they will receive a certificate upon completion.

WHERE:        The UP Roper Yard – 650 David Road, Salt Lake City, UT 84119.

WHEN:          Tuesday through Thursday, April 8-10, from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.   The best time for reporters would be after 9:30 a.m.

WHY:             Rail transportation of chlorine is safe.  Chlorine incidents are very rare and most often involve minor releases resulting from improperly securing tank car valves or fittings.  When incidents occur, emergency responders need the best available information and training to respond effectively and safely. TRANSCAER® and The Chlorine Institute are pleased to offer this training as part of their ongoing safety outreach efforts.

TRANSCAER® is a voluntary national outreach effort that focuses on assisting communities to prepare for and respond to a possible hazardous materials transportation incident. TRANSCAER® members consist of volunteer representatives from the chemical manufacturing, transportation, distributor, and emergency response industries, as well as the government.    For more information, visit: www.transcaer.com.
