Before Wendy was born… before the legendary Captain Hook… before a boy was given the name Peter Pan…and before there was a Neverland, there was a Starcatcher Apprentice named Molly, a pirate named Black Stache, and a nameless orphan. In the story that comes before the one we all know, they are thrown together in a perilous (and wildly hilarious) adventure on the high seas. But, of course none of this actually exists, unless you are prepared to use your imagination.
In this coming-of-age tale three orphans find themselves on a ship bound for Rundoon. On that same ship, they meet Molly, who teaches these orphans the significance of bedtime stories, bravery, integrity, kindness and leadership. Along their adventure, they meet Black Stache, the most evil pirate captain on the seas. Captain Stache along with his cohort Smee, bumble their way along to get to the Queen’s treasure (God Save Her). Instead of gold and silver, this cast of 12 will help them to love, kindness, acceptance, home, and fulfillment. They find Neverland.
The play is based on the 2006 children's novel, Peter and the Starcatchers, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Dave Barry and humorist Ridley Pearson. The story was adapted by Rick Elice into an award-winning Broadway show. Peter and the Starcatcher won five Tony Awards along with eight other awards including; Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk, Tina, Obie, and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award. Premiering on Broadway April 15, 2012, Peter and the Starcatcher ran for 319 performances and 18 previews.
Melanie Day teaches Theatre at Box Elder High School. Melanie has been involved in theatre since she was a little girl and has been directing for over two decades. “My parents took me to see Peter Pan with Mary Martin on Broadway when I was a child and I can still remember when she flew out over the audience and I could almost touch her. This delightful tale has been close to my heart ever since. Now as a mother I see the joy of childhood through a different lense and it is indeed magical. Peter and the Starcatcher tells how these ordinary people become the memorable characters we love. It also explores the importance of family, friendship and what we gain as we each grow up. The Heritage Theater production of Peter and the Starcatcher features a talented cast with Adam Wheatley (of Brigham City) as Boy/Peter, Andrea Brandley (of Logan) as Molly, and Alan Smith (of Ogden) as Black Stache. Rounding out the cast are 9 ensemble members who make up the over 90 other characters including Ross Reeder (Perry), Bryce Day (Perry), Kam Klitgaard (Brigham City), Brock Cheney (Willard), Alex Patterson (Ogden), Jace Chadwick (Brigham City), Matt Payne (Brigham City), Caderik Wilson (Brigham City), and Chris Metz (Logan).
