Heritage Theatre Presents "Steel Magnolias"

Friday, March 3, 2017 - 7:00pm to Saturday, March 25, 2017 - 9:00pm

The Heritage Community Theater is tickled pink to present Robert Harling’s comedy-drama STEEL MAGNOLIAS, running March 3rd through March 25.

Follow the action in Truvy’s beauty shop, where outspoken, wisecracking Truvy, and her eager new assistant Annelle, dispense shampoos and free advice. Included in the hilarious repartee is the town’s rich curmudgeon Ouiser, the eccentric millionaire Miss Clairee, the local social leader M’Lynn and her bride-to-be daughter Shelby. Watch as these women, friends through good times and bad, lean on each other when tragedy occurs.

Robert Harling was inspired to write STEEL MAGNOLIAS after his sister Susan died of complications from diabetes. STEEL MAGNOLIAS beautifully personifies the unequivocal strength of steel and the femininity, nobility and perseverance that the magnolia flower has come to symbolize, all wrapped up in womankind. It is a roller-coaster ride of triumph and tragedy, fun and frolic, a delightful profile of Southern living, with perfectly executed yin-yang hilarity and pathos. In Truvy’s own words of wisdom: “Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”

STEEL MAGNOLIAS is being directed by Brian Wood who is a veteran at Heritage Theater both on the stage and behind the scenes. This is the second show he has directed at Heritage. The stellar cast features Marsha Holmes as Truvy, Aubrey Dickey as Annelle, Laurie Allen as Clairee, Dawn Allen as Shelby, Angie Pendergrass as M’Lynn and Diane Robbins as Ouiser.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS will open March 3 and play Mondays, Fridays, and Saturday’s through March 25 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee performance on March 11 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and children 12 and under. The Heritage Theater is located at 2505 South Hwy 89 in Perry.
