What is CJC? It’s the Weber—Morgan Children’s Justice Center located at 2408 Van Buren Avenue. For the last 25 years, the Children’s Justice Center has helped children who are reported to be victims of child abuse.
The Center is in the historic building that once was a home. This is a friendly and safe place where the child victims and their families can start the healing process. They start telling their story to the teams’ members and investigators. The interviews are done in a home-like setting, with trained professionals. They make the interview feel safe for the victims, and they try to minimize the number of times a child victim has to tell their story.
They have waiting areas that are filled with toys and stuffed animals, and the interview rooms have recently been redone to make the families feel more at ease. With the staggering statistics of one in six boys, and one in four girls, will be sexually abused before the age of 18, the need for the Center has been on the rise over the last few years. The demand for the services for other crimes involving children like domestic violence, drug endangerment and the internet exploitation has led to an increased need for the Center over the years. The Children’s Justice Center was originally established to serve children up to age of 17 whom have been victims of sexual or physical abuse.
The Weber –Morgan Children’s Justice Center helps more than 500 children annually; and just like many other organizations, they need donations. The third-annual Sheriff’s Ride For Justice happened on Saturday July 15, 2017. The ride began at 10:00 am at the Golden Spike Harley Davidson in Riverdale. They were escorted by the Highway Patrol and many other officers. Peggy Taylor stated, “This was an awesome ride for a wonderful cause! I enjoyed every minute. OK, except the hailstorm over Mirror Lake. It was a bit chilly!” On the ride, an ice cream stop was included. Thanks, Uinta, Wyoming Sheriff! Everyone had a great time for a great cause. There was many wonderful items for the Opportunity Drawings, like an Impressions Bracelet - A sparkling procession of Genuine CZs are prong-set in gleaming gold. Value of $182 donated by Jewels by Park Lane.
If you missed the ride this year there are other ways to help. The CJC has on-going needs for a number of items:
· snack-size chips, pretzels, cookies, jerky, string cheese
· Drinks-soda, juice boxes, shelf stable milk, bottled water
· small packages of baby wipes
· Batteries- AAA, AA, C
· Individually wrapped candy
· Light Bulbs- 100 watt, 60 watt indoor flood
· Cash donations can be made at cjcogden.org
Commissioner Gibson stated "On any given Saturday all across America, if you can find a Harley Davidson dealership, you will find people getting together to have a great ride, many times for a special cause. Today in Ogden, the ride was for the Weber/Morgan Children's justice center. All proceeds go to this awesome facility that helps kids who have endured horrible things. Katrina and I had a blast riding along, and saw some of the most beautiful country in the world, right here in our own back yard. Big thanks to the Weber County Sheriffs office motor squad for the escort. I love where I live!"
Trischia and Cameron Wadey said it all, “And that's a wrap! Thank you to all of you that came out today and supported the 3rd Annual Sheriff’s Ride for Justice! It was an amazing year and look forward to next year!”
