On April 4th, the Weber County Main Library (located at 2464 Jefferson Ave., Ogden) reopened its doors after an 18-month renovation and restoration. On Saturday, April 7th, a rededication ceremony was held and the public was introduced to a completely renovated and inviting space. The community can, once again, come learn and be taught within a new technology-centric environment.
I took a tour there and was able to see the beautiful renovations. The library feels very open and spacious with lots of natural light throughout. The children’s area, which used to be downstairs, is now upstairs. It occupies half of the third level and includes interactive flooring, as well as, several children’s computers along with “Mishka” the Main Library’s polar bear mascot.
There is also a specific area for teen—complete with gaming computers, study spaces and large screen projection.
There is a large auditorium with surround sound, meeting rooms, and a literacy training center. There is a lighted sculpture, which is new to the library, in the central atrium.
Additionally, there is a café on the main floor which offers food and drinks, as well as, catering for events and meetings held within the library. An outdoor terrace is also part of the renovated structure which allows the opportunity for performances.
The Weber County Main Library was dedicated, originally, on April 4th 1968.
Here are some of the amazing programs the Main Library offers:
*Children’s Discovery Time
*Bilingual Story Fiesta
*Chess club for youth

Each department of the library is well marked and identifiable. The staff is eager and willing to help with any need. It’s wonderful to see these improvements take place for our local libraries! Let’s get out and take advantage of their functionality and be an active community participant!
