At the August 7th Planning Commission meeting, a significant portion of the meeting was devoted to the discussion of amending the Nuisance Ordinance to allow backyard chickens throughout the City, following a presentation by Matt Firth. Differing views on the amount of regulation were significant, with Commission Chairman David Walker questioning the legitimacy of some portions of the proposed ordinance limiting chicken owners, saying “Let them govern themselves,” while Commissioner Petersen advised, “We’ve evolved to the point where if there’s a problem, government solves it for them.” A public hearing on the ordinance proposal will be forthcoming. Planning Commission is held the first Thursday of every month at 7PM. City Council meetings are the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7PM.
