Dear Editor,
Enjoy Autumn
The summer heat can be oppressive, and it can wear you down by summer’s end. When you feel the first cool, crisp day of autumn, it’s like a refreshing boost of energy, and staying indoors is no way to enjoy what autumn has to offer. There are many ways to enjoy the most colorful of seasons. Many of them are free or cost very little money, so get outside and enjoy yourself.
One of the most peaceful autumn activities is the early morning walk. Get up at daybreak, put on a jacket, and go outside. There will be a chill in the air, and you might be able to see your breath. Birds will be chirping and hunting for breakfast, and you may even spot a deer or a rabbit. A foggy haze may be in the air, and the orange horizon will be beautiful. You can take a deep breath and enjoy the crisp air, nature’s own air conditioning.
Another great autumn activity is a visit to a pumpkin patch. Many farmers let you go out and pick your own pumpkin right out of the patch. It’s a good idea to get more than one. You’ll need one for a jack o’ lantern and one for a pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. If you have children or grandchildren, then bring them along and let them pick out a pumpkin of their own. And again, you’ll be outside enjoying the splendor of fall.
Since the cool weather is more tolerable that the heat and humidity of summer, take your books, magazines, or laptops outside. Sit in a chair or swing and read or surf the web. It’ll be a nice change from the stuffy house.
The beauty of autumn is also a wonderful place to enjoy your romance. You can walk hand in hand with your sweetheart and enjoy the colorful leaves. If the air is cool enough, bring a blanket and cuddle up with your sweetie on a porch swing or two-seater lawn furniture. You and your mate could even lie back on a hill and watch the evening sky until the sun falls and the stars appear.
Don’t forget about how great autumn nights are. Build a campfire to roast hot dogs and marshmallows with family and friends. After enjoying the roasted treats, you can sit around the fire and tell ghost stories with your guests. Scary tales are always a fun autumn activity.
Autumn has so much simple fun and beauty to offer, but you’ll never enjoy it from inside your home. Get outside, breathe the cool air, and take in the wonders of fall. You’ll be glad you did.
