Utopia will begin construction to build out infrastructure throughout the City. Perry residents are invited to a Town Meeting where representatives from Perry City and Utopia will be available to answer your questions. That meeting is scheduled for February 4, 2016, at 6:30 PM at Three Mile Creek Elementary School.

In an open letter from Mayor Cronin to the residents of Perry, he states: “In 2004, Perry was one of eleven Utah cities that joined together to establish the Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency (UTOPIA). UTOPIA was created to provide world class connectivity to the residents and businesses of its member cities. Although the founders were embracing Utah’s pioneering spirit, they were not fully aware of the magnitude of this project. Along the way, UTOPIA has run into many obstacles in trying to build out the network. I am happy to announce UTOPIA has now turned the corner and has been very successful in their latest endeavors. With this being said, I have also worked diligently with the UTOPIA Board and staff to ensure Perry’s voice and needs were heard.

I am happy to announce that your wait for UTOPIA is almost over. Starting in January, UTOPIA will resume construction to finish building out Perry. The entire construction process will take a little over six months to complete. We are anticipating the first customer connections will occur in early spring. UTOPIA is an “open access” network. That means each home can have a dedicated fiber connection and then have the choice of several private companies who provide Internet, phone, and video services over that connection. These companies will be competing for your business, ensuring you get quality services at a reasonable price with great customer care. On average, UTOPIA subscribers are getting 250 Mbps upload and download for $65.00 a month ($30 to UTOPIA / $35 to ISP).

Although Perry residents will have access to connect to the UTOPIA network, we have negotiated that residential connections will be made on a voluntary basis. In other words, this is another option for service for those residents who want to enjoy the benefits of a direct fiber connection, however there will be no monthly fees to residents who do not want to connect to the UTOPIA network.

I invite Perry residents to a Town Meeting on February 4th at 6:30 at Three Mile Creek Elementary School. Representatives from Perry City and UTOPIA will be available to answer your questions. Also, to learn more about UTOPIA and its providers, you can visit www.utopianet.org or contact them at 801.613.3880.

Having a state of the art, direct fiber, high speed, open access network available at such a cost effective rate will open doors of opportunity for residential and economic growth and is just another reason why Perry is the Perfect Place to Call Home!”

Congratulations to all those who participated in the 2015 holiday Outdoor light display. The winners were:  Greg Hansen– 1st Place, Tresa Peterson– Honorable Mention, Rocky Rhodes– Honorable Mention, Troy Jensen– Honorable Mention

Snow Removal - Landowners are responsible to keep sidewalks adjacent to their property accessible and cleared of debris, vegetation, and snow in order to be compliant with Perry City ordinances and reduce their personal liability. Also as winter is here, in order to allow for snow removal, vehicles and trailers are not allowed to be parked on public streets within 48 hours immediately following any snowfall.

Congratulations to the new City Council: Toby Wright, James Taylor and Nathan Tueller. We want to thank those who are going out of office for all their services to the City of Perry.
