The Alabama Supreme Court just rejected the US Supreme Court's gay marriage opinion and basically told them to stay out of their business. They will follow the Alabama Constitution and Law which bans homosexual marriages.
They claim that the 5-4 ruling by the SCOTUS is illegitimate and without legal authority or precedence.
And they are exactly right. The US Government has no role whatsoever in matters of marriage. The US Constitution does not include any such reference, and in fact, it reserves such matters exclusively to the States through the 10th Amendment.
It's nice to see States standing up to the overreach and abuse of the federal government. I am pleased to see some governors taking a strong stand on such abuse. And I hope this will do much to restore support for State's rights.
