Heritage Theatre Presents: "Big River"

Saturday, June 6, 2015 - 9:43am to Saturday, June 27, 2015 - 9:43am

June 6 – 27 (Except June 13) | Matinees June 20 & 27

The Heritage Community Theater proudly announces its rendition of the award-winning musical, “Big River:  The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” to be performed June 6 through 27.

Mark Twain’s timeless classic sweeps us down the mighty Mississippi as Huck Finn helps his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom.  Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful, and heartwarming, bringing to life our favorite characters from the novel.  Propelled by a Tony Award winning bluegrass score from Roger Miller, this jaunty journey provides a brilliant celebration of pure Americana. Ernest Hemingway declared that “all modern American literature comes from one book...Huckleberry Finn.”

Director Dee Pace, who has directed the show previously, names it as one of his all-time favorites.  “Whether you read the book as a child or not, you will fall in love with this legendary work.  The show appeals to people of all ages. It engages the romping fun of Huck’s youthful peers, the outrageous antics of traveling con men, life’s lessons regarding friendship, romance, and humanity, and the ever-present Mississippi.  Every minute is entertaining.”

“You will find the production side equally entertaining,” Pace adds.  “Much of it takes place on a moving raft, representing travel on the river.  This show simply has universal appeal.  Everyone will go away with something.”

Playing the role of Huckleberry Finn is Brigham City’s Mitch Andersen, with the role of Jim played by Carlton Bluford, previously from North Ogden, now heralding from Salt Lake City.  Other unforgettable characters include Rob Christensen and Lee Perry as the hilarious Duke and King, and Director Dee Pace playing the role of Huck’s father, Pap.  “As far as supporting cast members, each takes on a character role at some point in Huck’s and Jim’s journey down the Mississippi River.”

What will the real world fallout be for non-profit religious institutions from Obergfell v Hodges?

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) will hold a press conference with representatives from religious non-profits who are concerned about how the Supreme Court’s upcoming gay marriage decision will affect their institutions.

“It’s certainly going to be an issue. I don’t deny that,” Verrilli said. “I don’t deny that, Justice Alito. It is it is going to be an issue.”

In light of this admission, Lee has been working with religious non-profits to understand the scope of this potential problem. The group will share statements and take questions from the media during the press event.

13th Annual Historic 25th Street Car & Motorcycle show

Friday, June 5, 2015 - 5:00pm

NEWS RELEASE:  13th Annual Historic 25th Street Car & Motorcycle show

Event Date:  June 5, 2015

Time:  5:00pm until 9:00pm

Location:  Historic 25th Street from Washington Blvd. to Wall Avenue, Ogden, Utah

Contact:  Carolyn Brierley, 801-940-0436, director@historic25.com

http://www.historic25.com/2015-car-show/

How often have you seen a restored classic car that took you to a nostalgic memory from the past?  You can again experience that nostalgia on Historic 25th Street where you will gain an appreciation for the sound of a well-tuned V8 sending power to the rear wheels, fantastic paint jobs that often cost more than a brand new car, memorable tunes from the 50’s and 60’s, and curvaceous gals dressed in retro-wear strolling along the street.  See it all at the thirteenth annual Historic 25th Street Car & Motorcycle show!  Over 350 beautiful hot rods, classic cars, trucks and motorcycles line 25th Street from Wall Avenue to Washington Blvd.

Presented by America First Credit Union for the past 9 years, the show is held in conjunction with the monthly First Friday Gallery Stroll.  Carolyn Brierley, Executive Director for the H25 Business Association, states that “These gorgeous cars are stunning examples of another art form! Many car owners have spent years restoring, building, or re-building their piece of art. Others may have inherited a jewel. Still others may just be having fun with whatever they can piece together. The result is a wonderfully diverse collection of vehicles. Seeing the cars makes many people reminisce about the car they used to own, the one they first drove or the one that they should have bought. Everyone has a story.”

The show is produced by a group of friends who all own and drive hot rods.  Those friends are Steve & Carolyn Brierley, Alan & Marilyn Clark, Darrell & Donna Kersey, Mike & Joan Tuttle, and Bob & Louise Eames.  This group got together one night & decided to host a simple car show on 25th Street that included oldies tunes played by JC Hackett and his Oldies Productions.  That was thirteen years ago.  Popularity has grown and they credit the “keep it simple” logic behind the growth.  Expanding the parking area to accommodate additional cars is the only change that has been made since its initial conception.  The organizers expect almost 400 entries this year after beginning with only 60 entries in 2003.  The organizers do not do this as an organized car club.  They do it as a fundraiser for the H25 Business Association and St. Anne's new Lantern House Homeless Shelter. The association uses proceeds to help produce other community events on Historic 25th Street.

To celebrate the 13th anniversary of the car show, over 30 winning vehicles will be selected by H25 businesses.  Special Awards will be given by America First Credit Union, Ogden’s Mayor, Police Chief, Fire Chief and City Council.  Coca Cola, Coors, Miller Lite and Burger Stop (Layton) will also be awarding special prizes.

Registration is $10 per car (no exceptions) and public admission is free.  This is an open show, meaning that there are no specific classes of vehicles.  Participants may register the night of the show at the registration desk located mid-block between Grant and Lincoln Avenues.

There is no Street Rod parking allowed on the street until 2:00pm.  Any cars parked for over 2 hours prior to 2:00pm will be ticketed.  For information or to obtain a registration form, please send an email to director@historic25.com or call 801-773-8438.

Road closure information:  Historic 25th Street (Wall Avenue to Washington Blvd.) will be closed June 5, 2015 from 2:00pm until 10:00pm.
