Ellen Eccles Theatre celebrates historic anniversary with Beatles biography show on April 19

Saturday, April 19, 2014 - 9:00am

Ellen Eccles Theatre celebrates historic anniversary

with Beatles biography show on April 19

LOGAN, UT (03/18/2014) - April 4 marks the 50th anniversary of a historic record accomplished by the Beatles - occupying the top five singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a feat not matched by any other act, before or since. In fact, the Fab Four held down twelve spots in all on the charts that week. The Ellen Eccles Theatre celebrates the 50th anniversary of Beatlemania with the show "In My Life - A Musical Theatre Tribute to the Beatles" on April 19 at 7:30 pm. The show is appropriate for all ages.

The top five records were No. 1, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ No. 2, ‘Twist and Shout,’ No. 3, ‘She Loves You,’ No. 4, ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand,’ and No. 5, ‘Please Please Me.' With ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ giving the band their third No.1 in a row, they achieved another record that still stands to this day.  In its 52 year history, no other act has had three consecutive No. 1′s on the Billboard chart.

A Billboard story from that very day begins: "Just about everyone is tired of the Beatles. Disc jockeys are tired of playing the hit group; the writers are tired of writing about them. Everyone's tired of the Beatles except the listening and buying public."

The group had left the U.K. to make their U.S. debut just months before and had built on the growing Beatlemania with their famed performances on The Ed Sullivan Show in early 1964. By April, they had 12 tracks charting on the Hot 100 chart, and that number they would expand to 14 in the following weeks.

More than just a Beatles tribute concert, In My Life gives the audience a chance to “be there” at pivotal moments in the extraordinary career of the Beatles: Liverpool’s legendary Cavern Club, The Ed Sullivan Show, Shea Stadium, Abbey Road Studios and the final live performance on the rooftop of their Apple Corp offices. With manager Brian Epstein serving as narrator, In My Life allows the audience to get a glimpse inside the world of the Beatles from their point of view, as well as hear some of the greatest songs ever written. Historical settings such as the Cavern Club are established on stage with videos and images which play behind the actors and musicians on a video screen.

In My Life takes the audience back to February 1964 when America watched the Beatles for the first time on The Ed Sullivan Show, playing “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” Progressing through their various musical stages, the audience re-experiences the psychedelic era of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the creation of the haunting “Blackbird” and the raucous rock and roll of “Revolution.”

CALENDAR LISTING:

In My Life - A Musical Theatre Tribute to the Beatles is the smash hit, award-winning retelling of the Beatles story through the eyes of manager Brian Epstein and featuring renowned tribute Abbey Road. The musical is considered by industry insiders to be the most unique Beatles show in decades. The smash hit production performs at the Ellen Eccles Theatre on Saturday, April 19 at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are $40.00 and may be purchased online at www.cachearts.org or in person at 45 South Main Street in Logan. The show is appropriate for all ages. The show is appropriate for all ages.
