Second Parent Member of Utah SAGE Test Review Committee Speaks Out

In 2013 the Utah Legislature mandated parental review of SAGE test questions and established what is now called the SAGE Parent Review Committee. It was a response to concerns that the computer adaptive tests could include biases or agendas that are objectionable to Utah family values.

… In the spring when I was made aware of the USOE putting words in my mouth I contacted Judy Park several times, through email and phone messages to no avail until I sent a more honest email to her one day, she immediately responded. I will enclose our emailed conversation.

UTAH- Common Core has been the source of much concern for parents in Utah State. The Utah State Department of Education has gone to a lot of work and expense to ease the minds of concerned parents, citing results of a 15 parent review committee

New Robotics Team is 'Engineered' to Teach More than Math and Science

 

              Green Acres Elementary—Jayna Frost finds herself during just her 2nd year teaching at Green Acres, and already she is working as the coach of the brand new Robotics team.  She says everything is new and they are all learning as they go.  She adds, "We couldn't do it without the 7 volunteer coaches!" 

Harrisville Business Spotlight – Hot Doggity

Rich and Debbie Szerszen opened Hot Doggity in July 2014 at Knights Plaza in Harrisville. They created the menu by starting with high quality products like all beef hot dogs, crisp vegetables and freshly baked buns. When entering you have a feeling of the friendliness of both owners. This experience was great for the whole family, everyone enjoyed their lunch.

Harrisville—Boy Scout Court of Honor was held for the young men in 7th Ward at 6 pm September 28. There were lots of awards given, videos shown, and refreshments served. Mayor Brice Richins appointed Michael Murtha to serve in the planning commission for the city at the October 14 city council meeting. Mr. Murtha will serve until December 2017. Also at the meeting, the council approved of a new ordinance that several surrounding cities have already enacted.

Students Set to Perform “Oklahoma”

Pleasant View - Weber High’s drama class will be performing Rodgers & Hammerstein's Broadway musical “Oklahoma,” a love story set in a Western Indian Territory just after the turn of the century. Drama teacher Mark Daniels is excited to see his students take on the iconic musical because he feels it has set the standard and rules for which all other musicals still follow today.
